This cuts into my soul two ways. My father was in the US Army in Dutch Harbor Alaska on December 7th 1941 with the 250th Coast Artillery Not long after the 7th, a second carrier group attacked Dutch. My dad’s combat station was on a M-2 50 cal ADA position around his gun. He and the soldiers, sailors and marines of his time were the best of the best generation. Secondly, these models were built by a Japanese artist who showed deep respect for the subject and displayed them in honorable manner. I wish I could shake this man hand and tell him what a great thing he has built. We are the the ones who have to tell the divisive politicians of this time to cease and desist, this is our world, not theirs.

As a person who lives in Hawaii, I can tell you this is incredibly accurate. The only thing I wish could've been done is the oil which leaks from the ship and has been since 1941, although idk how you would model an oil leak.
@jerrell1169
2 жыл бұрын
Not super hard to place stuff in the resin as it hardens (liquids aren't good really, it'll form bubbles and such in the final cast). The biggest issue for something in the resin would be obscuring the final view.
@Astrocat-od5cy
2 жыл бұрын
@@jerrell1169 I feel like what makes it difficult is how subtle it is. At the real sight when you are right next to it there's only enough oil to make the water look like a rainbow. From further away you can only tell where the oil is because the water looks "shinier" in certain areas. Idk what technique could be used to make the resin look shinier, especially when you can't control the lighting, but it would be really neat if it could be done.

ironic if it had become a memorial, it would have been scrapped like all the rest.
Really nice work. Personally, I can't for the life of me do PE that small and flimsy. At least not without going frothing at the mouth nuts. 😊 ( I cringe at the thought of doing the Trumpeter USS Langley aircraft carrier.) But one thing I have always laughed at is the manufacturers making a kit like this, with oodles of PE for the finest details, but then you get to put them all on platform decks that are a scale 5 and a half feet thick (at best). I suppose it would be too expensive to make the platform decks out of slightly thicker brass. Same with all the gun emplacements, the tubs have to be at least a scale 3 feet thick. At least on this kit they are replaced with PE. Much better appearance.

Great artistry, you are gifted. One item of note tho. Arizona was completely destroyed from frame 77 to frame 10 by a magazine explosion (high order detonation) which basically eliminated the forward part of the ship from turret 2 to the forecastle. The bow damage shown is good, but not too accurate. Wonderful job on the memorial part. I hated to see the destruction of such a good model build for the diorama, but it is your model, your diorama, your work, your choice. The end result was amazing.
