Hustle with the crew of the USS Hancock in the South China Sea in February 1965 as piston-engine A-1 Skyraiders, supersonic F-8 Crusaders, sporty A-4 Skyhawks and other aircraft of the fleet fly missions in support of ground objectives in Viet Nam. That's a Sidewinder air-to-air missile being mounted to an F-8 Crusader.
The vigor -- and rigor -- of an aircraft carrier crew is inspiring to watch. The film causes one to wonder -- where are these men now; what were their subsequent lives like?
The Hancock was one of the World War II Essex-class carriers upgraded for postwar duty. Hancock was the first U.S. fleet carrier to receive steam catapults during a modernization in the early 1950s.
