Sadly, Trumpy leads modelers astray in painting Measure 22 (or the earlier Meas 12). The dark band only goes to the lowest part of the main deck above the waterline. The wartime photos have this about halfway back the after deck house. It's also sad that Trumpy has gone to Buffalo where she sits as a museum and replicated her current 72" tall hull numbers, rather than the WWII correct 24" tall ones (which would make for tiny decals,, at .068" (1.78mm) tall). But, it's a good build of a kit that has unfortunately soft detail, and can be a real struggle to get right.

Thanks for the video! I recently purchased this kit and plan to build it as the USS Johnston, another famous Fletcher class (square bridge) destroyer.

You did a nice job building this model I've got her as well and it was great that you told the story about the Sullivan brothers that the ship is named after. However there are a couple of mistakes. One of which is actually the company's fault that they made the mistake when they did the picture on the side of the larger numeral decal goes at the bow the smaller numeral decal goes its turn if the stern decal was as big as what they show an enemy ship plane or submarine would know exactly where the stern of the ship was very easily and there's that has depth-charge racks there it would have blown this turn off when it was hit after they targeted it. Second that's a measure 22 paint scheme that the Sullivans was painted in 1945. The funnel caps should not be black they should be the same color as the superstructure. The black caps didn't appear until after the war, and the ship was painted on peace time grey with black funnel caps.

Thanks for honoring the people and the ship. Looks like you enjoyed it generally and it came it looking good. It's on my list to put on my shelf. Like the way you did the shamrock. Best cup of coffee I had all day while enjoying the video. Thx for that

Peter another amazing build and video! I really liked the history about the ship. The gray paint scheme on the hull was outstanding, I really liked it. It always makes the day better when you put up a new video. I can't tell you how much I enjoy all of your videos, I'm so happy I found and subscribed to your channel. Again Peter awesome build. Thank you for making a great channel. 👍👍🇦🇹🤝🇺🇸

Can I suggest at the stage were you put clear gloss on the vessel before weathering to possibly put on clear flat instead, help take the shine of the model, especially the black funnel caps. And I agree with you, this was a nice cheap introduction to Trumperter 350 models. Though I must admit I had some issues with the deck fit :(

The clear gloss works better for decals. Once they are on, dull coat can be used to seal everything one final time.

Thanks! I like to put on a flat coat at the end, but didnt do it this time because the wash toned down the shine a little. The funnel caps were not weathered, so they were much too shiny, should have paid attention to that!

USS Juneau wasn't just hit by one torpedo. She was hit by a type 93 torpedo from destroyer Amatsukaze. It caused major damage and she withdrew for repairs. Later, she was hit by a second torpedo by submarine I-26 in the exact same spot as the first torpedo.

Unfortunately the USS The Sullivans is in need of some major repairs. Years of wear on the hull resulted in holes and the ship began to seriously list at the moorings. The ship was pumped out and the hull was patched to upright the ship. A storm with high winds recently caused the Sullivans to list once again. The City of Buffalo is working on a plan to dry dock the USS The Sullivans for much needed repairs to the hull as well as new shaft seals.
