I think this was the moment for the country and the Federation to realize individual talent and athleticism is not enough. Similar to the 2014 NBA Championships, the Spurs dominated with a major upset over the Miami Heat which was completely full of superstars. They played like a team and created openings instead of relying on 1v1 drives or pure shooting ability. Now look at Miami this year, they only had 1 superstar and made it to the Finals. Also, Katie playing Rocket League? Gotta check that chat log lol.

Midge Purce from minutes 5:00-8:00 absolutely nailed it. I played men’s college and tad past. Getting knocked out of NCAA’s…we knew who was 6,7,8 and it was also “in the moments.” I’ve seen a dude who is a go to say he didn’t want one, one particular game. He was a year older than me. We were like wtf!!!! We ended up winning but it was a moment of. So we would do practices and make them “game like.” Our coaches would rate us 1-5 (confidence, calm, placement, & etc) on their own determined scale. I also coached, I used this. I found confidence in players you wouldn’t expect. They step up and bury it. Then….some don’t! 😧 My RB who couldn’t hit water fallin out boat during gameplay. But that SOB would step up and drill that it. I knew their spots. As for the reaction: I enjoyed watching their demise. Possibly too much. I’m working on it.

Great show. Just a few comments: 1. The expectations for the top countries is the same everywhere. We are actually more subdued than the rest of the world. 2. The last player setup was forced on Vlatko because Rose had to sit out. Otherwise, Vlatko would NOT have made the change. 3. We can be GREAT if we have the right Coach, no argument there. 4. The saves made by Swedish GK were all reaction saves. None were outside her basic arm reach. Still well done but, nothing we would not ask of any GK for a national team. 5. Girma was our best of the young player. Would have loved for Sanchez and Thompson to have a chance to show their stuff but Rodman and Smith were BIG disappointments. 6. Its not that Woke people started to play/ruin the game, its that the Woke players decided their activism was MORE important than the game. I mean, when Rapinoe says that her top/proud memory was the Equal Pay work and not winning the WC for her country, what else can I say? If you think people that have negative comments don't watch the game, then I must be the ONLY one that did?? To reduce it to "we don't think you should play sports or have rights" is just wrong and demeaning. If the answer to criticism is that we are sexists then you are part of the problem why we are so polarized.

my friend, you burned your credit there in the end. reactionary and feel attacked? ok. maybe take a more critical look at yourself, your actions, your expectations, and how you could have reflected better quality of character in yourself. your double standard also undermines your attempt to seem thoughtful and fair. and for the record, "Woke players decided their activism was MORE important than the game. I mean, when Rapinoe says that her top/proud memory was the Equal Pay work and not winning the WC for her country, what else can I say?" is some sexist shit. equal pay for herself, her teammates, everyone coming up in the system and for future generations of players, that should be fine with you if she's more proud of that. And their activism? that's for their own care and their own respect and so that playing for their national team can actually contribute to their income. wanting the women to keep their mouths shut about their treatment and about how respected or disrespected they are, especially in the couple years after our local women's league is rocked by accusations and controversy around abuse towards our women, you're being incredibly tone def, ignorant, and ya sexist. cause lord knows if your bosses underpaid you or treated you the same, you'd be complaining and making noise.

I think we're kind of past the era of US domination, but hopefully still in the era of US being the top team. Which is honestly better for the sport. But we were still missing Catarina Macario & Mal Swanson. I also think Jaeydon Shaw is going to be special. And we still have Trinity Rodman. I think some players on this team may carry over. Eventually the women may suffer from some of the same issues as the US men side, but I don't think it will be a steep drop off the cliff.
@PandaPanda-cn7yn

@@marcallen1621 yeah, I can't imagine USA not being a top team, however, I think there's a problem in the way we develop players. So many girls playing soccer, such a big talent pool compared to other countries but somehow when you look at the youth national teams there are no results in the recent years. An English player who played in the NWSL recently talked about difference in the soccer environments in Europe and America. She highlighted that in the USA, even if a player makes a technical mistake, as long as they show effort by chasing the ball, it's seen as acceptable. Conversely, in Europe, there's less tolerance for technical errors. I think this is a big issue and the bar should be raised of what we expect players technically because we can't out run teams anymore.

Honestly, I believe there are a lot of players in the league that need a chance as well. I haven't been able to keep up much this year, so I can't really name players but I'm sure they're there. And a few players that didn't get off the bench, I'm sure they still have it in them to return at the next world cup. But the thing is, they need to stay on the National Team, I feel like Vlatko didn't give a lot of players play time on the team. Huerta, Mewis, and Cook are great players too and deserved more play time. And as someone mentioned, we were missing Macario and Swanson still. I have faith in the players, I truly believe Vlatko didn't know how to use them accordingly on the field. He never found the vibe of them together on the field. That is a special skill in itself and he just didn't have it. I hope they get a new coach, and I'm wishing really hard it's Laura Harvey because she knows the players so well, but she's super happy just being OL Reigns coach. It's tough.
@marcallen1621

@PandaPanda-cn7yn I hear you. I could see, maybe a couple of world cups away, a big decline. I think it has to do with soccer in the states in general. Soccer is too expensive here, and we don't have a culture of recreational soccer where players play on their own. Both things hurt participation levels during early formative years. I think the women's side has been immune because of things like title IX, where in other countries, it was not encouraged for girls to play.

To quote a Guardian article from yesterday: The US have never won a U-17 World Cup; in fact, they’ve been wretched in the competition lately. Their last U-20 title was in 2012. Julie Ertz and Crystal Dunn are the last ones standing from that squad on this senior World Cup team. Youth tournaments are about development more than they are about winning, but USA’s performances at those tournaments have been a clear indictment of the player pipeline and the federation’s coaching philosophies.

Thanks for the excellent conversation: Informative, engaging, professional. Very plainly said: the team and the three players who missed the shots were not supported by many because many have felt betrayed by them over the years. Naturally, to get support you do not do things over and over and over again that undermine your fan base’s (country’s) basic values and interests. Obviously, this team and those players violated the trust of many people in this country. There’s not much people can do when that occurs except in times like these they justifiably are given a chance to reveal how they feel. Fair are not, that’s human relations and the way of the world: You don’t get to act in such a way that you expect people, who have been repeatedly hurt and insulted that when the hammer comes down, that they stand by you. It just doesn’t work like that. It’s a lesson for us all. Brutal and devastatingly hurtful, andI am so sorry for the team. It’s time for a real reflection.

+ the citicism towards players like Rapinoe / older players should be geared towards them not stepping down to let younger players get their shot. She played badly that whole game, so be it - but have the guts to recognize you're having an off day, or that as the coach your star is off, and not let them take the decisive penalty. It defines a person the way RBG not stepping down under Obama will define her (which some compared Rapinoe to in terms of poorly ending a legacy) - all because she wanted to wait for Hillary to get to replace her. It didn't turn out that way, and now someone like Trump gets to benefit. And decades of progress get undone in a flash. Harsh comparison, but you get the idea. If you're gonna stop someone else from taking over, be prepared to leave no doubt it was the right decision. Ramble over! Further, it is the team that decided to take a political stand...and guess what, since they made it public, the public gets to have their opinions as well. And lastly, it has nothing to do with misogyny. I know you women love to attribute everything that happens in your lives to misogyny. Black soccer player of the Dutch women's soccer team Lineth Beerensteyn. Press conference: What did you think when the US was out? Beerensteyn: ,,What did I think when I saw that they were gone? Yes! Bye America!” When we played against the US recently, they were very arrogant to us. Beerensteyn also made it clear that the players of the United States had to speak better on the field from now on. ,,They had such a big mouth, they were already talking about the final. But the US ladies have to show it in the game before they talk.”

1) Re USA & Vlatko: I'm convinced he sabotaged the team. He never looks/ed worried or concerned. It was O'Hara not him, talking to the team after Portugal. He sounds/seems like such a dud. In the Olympics he used substitutions as if he promised every player that they would each see the pitch before they left Tokyo: taking off players who weren't even sweating yet, players who did well etc, and so often. I was so confused. NOW in the World Cup, it's like he forgot he brought more than 11 players. On what planet do you take off Alex Morgan (who didnt look tired) before penalties? I dont think she wouldve blown the penalties. If you want Pinoe on, you put her on in addition to Morgan, not instead of. If you're going to bring on Mewis & O'Hara, at least give them 20 mins. He was NOT trying to win this competition. HE does not have the mentality of "win everything"/ "every match is a must win match", that is the DNA of USWNT. Vlatko OUT!!! Harvey or Hayes in 2) Gutted for Nigeria, England was not the better side. Penalties suck. 3) Sweden GK = #CelebityLookALike with Gal Gadot, right? (Yes/ No) 4) Group stage taught us, ranking doesnt matter. R 16 taught, ranking does matter?

To take the blame away from three players who missed their penalties and put it on the technology is kind of ridiculous. That being said, it isn’t all doom and gloom. There are opportunities for the US to take time post World Cup to examine how to improve and change. The US Soccer the coaching staff and players will grow and improve
@Klako-ls6yt
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's on the players who missed, not the technology that got the call right. As for the players who missed, Rapinoe should get the brunt of the criticism here for the shootout loss. The main role that she should have had on this team was as a veteran who we could rely on in high pressure situations, and she ultimately failed to deliver on the one thing she was here to do. If she makes her penalty, the save that Naehar got on the next penalty wins it. Instead, because she missed, it put Sophia Smith in a pressure situation and she unfortunately couldn't capitalize.

Katie minutes 25:24 that part of the population believes in math & economics. They don’t want to be lied to about equity when math is math and figures are figures. Go do a ton of commercials and get paid. If it sells, you will get what you are worth, not what is even. Come on. Let’s talk about the “reality of the situation.” Explain to Mark Cuban how business math without a gimmick that also earns is a reason to green light a product. Come on, please see the light. I don’t understand how anyone can be a fan of this team specifically, or have any real awareness of national teams and think it’s not true that the world has caught up. It has-the margins are thinner AND thin. England has key critical injuries but Nigeria outplayed them, Germany is out, Colombia is rolling. Canada had it, New Zealand is coming, USA isn’t routing anyone, bad coaching be damned. We should love this-anyone can be beat.
