Ryan Smith said it would be around $700B to renovate. They said the DC has “really good bones” so no need to tear down. They are using new technology that will allow them to reconfigure entire seating sections to accommodate different events. He will have to blow out the walls and expand the sides of the arena. He wants to keep the NBA seating slope for hockey games. I assume the rebuild means the entire facade changes to get an East -West positioning (as indicated by the renderings). So it may not be a “new” build but sounds like it basically will be.

Another reason Sofi and Intuit dome cost so much to build because there is a fault line running really close to them so the probability of an earthquake is very high. They had to build to strict earthquake building codes. That’s life in California.

It is because everyone wants it downtown, that gets the funding only if it is downtown. And the reason is that this will actually fix mistakes of the past when the convention center was built that essentially cuts the downtown in half. This actually fixes the city layout. 75% expense on SEG. Arena, Japan town, concert hall, and convention center restaurants, bars hotels.

Presumably one will be out of town while the other plays home games. SLC is growing so fast and Utah supports their teams. I don't think it will be a problem. MLB is on its way too. The White Sox are never going to get public funding for a new stadium in Chicago. The Governor there has already expressed concerns about the Bears request for public funding. Reinsdorf is 88 I think if he passes, his family might be inclined to sell. The Rays' St Pete stadium plans are a disaster in the waiting if it happens at all. If it doesn't, they're gone. Each passing day it looks less and less likely the A's will go to Vegas. Fisher needs to come up with money he doesn't have to build a stadium. All this is going on and Utah has a site to build, 900 million in public funding on top of the 900 being given to Smith, and an ownership group in place ready to buy a team.

It didn't take away from either. And we still have the Winterhawks (WHL team of the Blackhawks), which sees consistent attendance as well that is some of the highest in the NHL's development league(s), alongside the WSL team in the Thorns also consistently having a very dedicated fan base that is notable. None have ever detracted from the other. Of course, SLC's metro is decently smaller still than Portland's, but the dedication fans have there is also underappreciated to be sure.

People act like the sky is falling when it comes to the arena situation, but what is really happening is there are too many good options going forward. Ryan Smith planned on building a new arena, Salt Lake City and Sandy City government are battling to have the hockey facility locations within their cities, the state of Utah allocated 900 Mil towards the facility, and the Olympics are returning which means new facilities will be here whether Delta Center is used or not. Whether Delta Center gets overhauled, Ryan Smith builds a new arena, or a brand new arena that is built for the Olympics is used, there will be an NHL standard arena for this team. The future is bright for this franchise in Utah and they have support of public and government with a good owner. People need to just quit whining and realize this facility won't happen overnight.

It's definitely a huge part land use issues, given how much control the Mormon Church (LDS) has over the city and state. Considering the arena is just 3 blocks from the HQ/Tabernacle, and that plot that wish to take ownership/lease of to redevelop which has the convention center is directly across S TEMPLE (that itself should tell you) from the HQ/Tabernacle, they'll definitely be especially opposed to using it in ways that would "threaten the historic spirit of downtown" and of course obscure views of their building. Quite literally built to be THE centerpiece like a "guiding light" type of thing. So you know that plays a big part in any issues they're having there.

Ryan Smith originally wanted to build a new arena, but local leaders twisted his arm to keep the teams in Downtown. I noticed that in a lot of your videos you constantly point out the age of the Delta center, and while it is old, it's not nearly as bad as you seem to think it is. As of now, it's obviously not ideal for Hockey, but if they can renovate it to make it truly multipurpose, I'm all for that. The Delta Center has a lot of history, and I'd hate to see it go. Plus, if Ryan Smith were to build a new arena, he undoubtedly would build it somewhere further south, making it a longer drive for all of us who live North of Downtown. It's also important to note that SEG (Smith Entertainment Group) has committed to investing 2 billion. So only 1/3 of the project will be funded with tax money

It will turn out nice just as the sports district surrounding it will. Smith isn't an idiot and he will hire the right architects to turn the current DC into a great dual purpose arena. Truth be told, this property in SLC is the perfect place for both teams to play. You have the Gateway Mall that will provide all the underground parking you require along with the public transit system right there across the street. The surrounding sports district will be a huge improvement to the city as well. Remember, the requirement for public funding was that the teams stay in SLC. So this made the most sense if you've ever been to SLC.
