On Monday, November 9th, United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) launched the third “Piggy Bank,” a unique financial literacy program designed to teach students of Walter Long Elementary School how to save money by simulating a traditional banking experience.
“The Piggy Bank” is a collaboration between United Way’s Young Philanthropists Society (YPS), Walter V Long Elementary School, Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU), Andson Inc. and various volunteers who donated time and materials to build a kid-friendly bank that includes a bank teller counter and decals on the walls with money saving tips.
Walter Bracken Elementary School and Howard E. Hollingsworth Elementary school also have Piggy Banks. So far, students have saved more than $100,000 through this Piggy Bank program.
