Nice video! Thanks! I'm confused about the oil drain plug washer. Mine didn't have one and we've had the bike since new. I googled forums and others have had the same question. I thought maybe I lost it at first and stuck my hand in the dirty oil drain pan fishing for it. After checking the forums I decided there was none in my 2003 and tightened down the plug without a washer.....will post if it leaks!

Just wanted to say that your video which is great btw, states Step 5 is to add 5 quarts or 4.3 liters of oil, for the sake of those who use liters(Litres) 5 quarts is 4.73 liters........a difference of 0.43 liters or almost 1 pint(0.91 pints) which is significant.

I had a VRod several years ago, sold it, since have been through a range of others and am next week going to collect my new old 2003 VRSCA to start my ‘keeper’ collection. It’s a stand out, is beautiful, represents so many firsts and rides and sounds great. I found a one owner (who paid $48,850 new after all the extras he wanted) with 13,000 kms (in 17 yrs). Very excited. I’m now pondering my next ‘keeper’- thinking late 80’s Vmax or a FZ1N (circa 2008).

Close, with the exception that the V-Rod does not use a Sealing Washer (RING) Read the manual. There was also a bulletin that came out way back in 2005 that the standard oil fill for all V-Rods after draining oil and filter went from 4.5 qts to 5 qts even. oil level is also suppose to be checked at operating temperature, which can be achieved by letting bike idle and waiting for cooling fans to cycle twice. It can show a difference of up to 1/2 half a quart. between cold check and hot check.

Harley's service manual says the bike needs to be upright to check the level, NOT on the side stand. Manufacturers never want you to check the oil on the side-stand because there are too many variables like that (aftermarket side stand, upgrades or changes in suspension/height, etc.) - for more instructions, click here and look at step 6: www.youmotorcycle.com/how-to-do-an-oil-change-on-a-harley-davidson-v-rod.html

2006 Night Rod. Night Rod has mid controls standard, not forward controls. Engine and frame were always black, whereas some V-Rods have more silver/grey engines and/or frames. Exhaust gives it a little more power. It's basically a V-Rod for people who want a tiny bit more handling and performance out of the bike.

I love my V-rod Muscle but I do not know much about the night rods. Are they really that similar? I have noticed that people talk about their night rods but refer to them as the v-rods. Can one simply use aftermarket parts from both without snagging? Anyway, thanks for posting the video.
@YouMotorcycle

They're just different trims of the same model, so you have VRSCA, VRSCB, VRSCD, VRSCDX, VRSCF, VRSCR, etc for all of the various models of V-Rods. That includes Night Rods, Night Rod Specials, Muscles, the original Street Rod, etc. They're all V-Rods and 99% of parts are interchangeable as long as they're within the same generation. Usually 2007 changes over from the first generation to the next, but even then some parts are interchangeable
