Hi, the skid plate was already on there and is a Suzuki part. Glad you like the video and found it convincing and informative. The motorcycle gets pushed harder in the Salisbury Plains videos on my channel. About whether to buy a BMW or a Suzuki, well I had my Suzuki now for just over a year, and after 20,000 miles the only thing that went wrong is the clutch burning out which cost £50 to replace during the service. I had three BMWs (R1100GS, R1150 GS and F650 GS Dakar) in 18 months, managed to do only around 7000 miles combined, had as far as I can remember 6 breakdowns (electrics, worn piston rings, broken starter motors etc...) I think Suzuki is the better option. It may not have the 100% looks, but it works.

Great video, I just got the Vstrom 2012 Adventure and am loving it. I have also noticed that cracks in roads can jolt the bike but it absolutely can absorb off road bumps and small jumps quite nicely.

And thank you, Alexis, for a brilliant review. I've watched at least several dozen so-called reviews of motorbikes recently, and yours-by far-is not only the most fun (as you clearly don't take yourself too seriously) but also the most informative of any I've seen. And best of all, you've convinced me that I need a V-Strom. I look forward to more of your reviews in the future. Cheers!

Good Video, Thanks Alexis. Glad that I've trade in my Yamaha Fazer 1000 to the new V-strom 650 2012. My V-strom had took me to Cambodia in 2012 and also my trip to northern tip of Thailand to tour Laos early this year 2013. I'm planning to tour Vietnam for my next motorbike trip next year 2014. Of course with my V-strom 650. Happy greetings from Singapore V-strom adventuretourer rider.

Thx for the video review but I wanted to see you push it harder on more difficult terrain. I rode my Vstrom over some unpaved passes in Colorado with my daughter on board and it did fine. It can be ridden hard.

Couldn't agree more on pretty-much everything you said! I have hung my DL650 up on a grass verge before, and am happy to say that all I had to do to get it off was push my body weight forward and the bike continued over the verge without damage. You should invest in crash bars, though! Will save you a bundle if you drop it on an unpredictable terrain!

Cool vid mate. I think you've achieved to convince me to buy the new V-strom. My concern was with off-road capabilities compared to the Yamaha Tenere 660 but now I see from a real rider (magazines often are not real riders) that the Strom is riding great while being much more comfortable. Thanks for that

It can definitely do wayyyyyyy more challenging terrain than this. I rode my DL1000 through very deep sand and over sand dunes. Mind you, I was running full knobs. Cheers for the post.

Do you thing it is some tecnic to avoid that or just i have not enought experience on that..I got suzuki djebel 250 I bought in cambodia just for my vacation , but I never dropped my bike on my last trip on april 2014 , around Cambodia.

Thank you, Alexis, I really enjoyed watching you check out your new V-Strom. I will be picking up my new [to me, it's a 2007 model] V-Strom DL650 in a few days. Can't wait. It has crash bars to protect the fairing and the bash plate as I am expecting the odd off on slippy and dusty Australian roads. Have you put crash bars on yet? And did you find a rubber stalk indicator mount so that they don't break when the bike lies down? Regards.

Hi Alexis. Considering I recently bought myself a 2008 Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, I have been watching your latest videos with much enjoyment and interest. I was completely unaware that you could ride motorcycles on Byways so thank you kindly for mentioning that. At 3:42 you mention where you are, but I cannot quite make it out. Wolfer's Lane? I live in Surrey so am keen to find and explore these hidden green lanes. Of course, any other suggests of hot spots would be great. Thanks, Mark.

Amazing video. You are doing things that a lot of us are only dreaming about. Do you think that a Kawasaki KLR650 or Suzuki DR650 would have been a better choice for the type of riding you do? They are both very cheap secondhand.

Dear Seangby, I also must admit the V-Strom feels a bit top heavy, especially on tight right turns. It is not your fault. However every bike will have some shortcoming, so far that is the only fault I can find on the motorcycle.

Hello fa6529, I have quite a bit of mud and sand riding on the V-Strom, and the alloy wheels on my V-Strom were fine for the job. I would not bother changing the motorcycle just for the wheels sake. Buying a second hand motorcycle to save cost and use the money for trips is a good idea.

Should be the routes with the little crosses, there are Byways only in certain areas. And get the general OS maps, not those for walkers an hikers, not the orange ones, but the silver and red. Hope this helps.

There is noithing special in this review. If I rode all time in this type of road i would use normal terrain tyres and build a real crash cage like in stunt bikes - this engine guards from givi or whatever are shitest quality - one good crash in more than 40mph speed and 80% posibility that coller , clutch/alternator cover were broken, - no thinking about broken footsets or curve handlebar .
