I wouldn't have thought the engine made any difference, (providing they were the same output). Personally I would have thought it was all down to the 'skill' of the driver, condition of the tyres, state of the road, and weight of the logs, - they might look all the same. But the overall weight only has to differ by as little as half a ton and in conditions like that it can make all the difference as to whether you get up a hill or not. My biggest surprise was the fact they did not look as if any were fitted with winches.

@christopherlovelock9104
5 жыл бұрын
@@@stephanroller3209 Ah yes i can see them. What I meant was I was surprised the trucks weren't fitted with front mounted winches, so as if and when the truck/s got stuck in the mud they could 'pay the winch cable out' and hook them around a tree, (there's enough big ones still standing near the road to take that weight), and simply pull themselves up the hill using the winch.

Use logs as a stiff bar system ,push/pull . Many options of connection. Keep it simple & low cost . Could also use steel drill pipe if available .Connect as many trucks together as you like. Every truck assists his brother in either push or pull . Good luck if you use this method .

I see these trucking situations in the third world countries and always think, why are they so obviously overloaded? Instead of burning up your truck in one giant load why not make two loads? The fuel for two trips would be the same for the overload and it would not kill the truck. Can’t they figure that out????

@@XXX-qk2cq... Here in USA, all the logging roads that I have seen are actually pretty decent gravel roads, with some additional maintenance whenever they return to an area after years of disuse. You can drive pretty much any vehicle on them, no problem. But in some other countries it seems that they do little more than clear a track through the forest... and just leave the native soil on the surface because they don't want to spend the money to improve the road. I understand the reasons why they don't want to improve the road... but if I was doing the hauling in such a place... I would be using a "purpose built" truck, such as an ex-military 8x8, or 10x10. Such vehicles would have the drivers reaching the top of that hill and looking in their mirrors, asking, "what hill?"

The engine was not the problem there. If it was anything mechanical at all... I would look to the gearing first. But I think a major factor here was the driver. Perhaps a little too timid on the approach... and then giving up, just at the critical moment, right when he's about to get it. Most likely just a little less experienced than the other drivers, and being just a little over cautious/ nervous, etc. But hey... you can only learn from doing.
