Thanks! The bike and I are in Finland. It is a K-750 with a stretched and widened frame. The engine is a 22hp Punsun chinese diesel where I mated an original 750 flywheel and transmission. The transmission gear ratios I changed to be much taller due to the smaller revs of the diesel. I cruise at 80-90kmh quite easily now, and still could change the final gear ratio to taller if needed.

Registration is not a problem IF and only IF the original bike is old enough, preferably in the seventies or older. I hear -84 is the cutoff date but I'm not sure. You also need to find a knowledgeable registration officer, as most are not used to registering diesel bikes :-) There are some limitations to noise, weight, horsepower etc but all doable. You can pm me in dieselbike forum area, I'm user sno-bro there if you'd like to ask more in Finnish.

How well is this holding up after four years? I am rebuilding a Dnepr K-750 that is very similar to yours and I want to replace the engine with a diesel that looks as good as yours. What problems did you run into during it's creation? Also, did you have to modify the fuel tank to make it fit like I often see on other diesel bikes?
@papefin
7 жыл бұрын
It is still working fine. Some oil leaks on the engine but running great. Fuel tank is original, but there are two spacers in the back attachment points to keep that end about an inch higher to clear the fuel lines. The biggest hurdles in creating the bike is the clutch attachment, engine to gearbox attachment, welding and chroming the exhaust and lengthening the frame and keeping it straight and true.

Awe man, this is a wonderful build. I wish I had the time and money to do this. What would you have to say about turbocharging it? Do you think the engine would handle low boost (5 or so psi)? Of course you would have to turn up the fuel to compensate if you have an adjustable HPFP. Also, I'm not sure if running an intercooler would be necessary either as you wouldn't be running much boost to begin with.

Awesome. It actually looks like a factory built bike unlike a lot of diesel home builds. Although I realy dont see any point in a diesel bike when the fuel is so expensive and the performance is so poor and the engines themselves are so noisy. Better to just run a normal slightly modded engine on heating oil which is very cheap, but only if you know where you can fill up on a journey.
@rileykirk11

Not only is running on heating oil illegal, but you cant get a gasser to run on heating oil unless you up the compression alot and then your gasser compnenonents will not like the stress.
@thra5herxb12s

No you lower the compression not raise it. I have video's of my oil burning engines on here. They have a much lower compression ratio because paraffin is zero octane. I'm sure lots of viewers will tell you that you dont know what you're talking about. It probably is illegal to use it on the road though because there's no duty on heating oil and the smell would give the game away as well.

Thats interesting to know. In the UK we can also use Red Diesel for heating and off road vehicles like tractors, and there is a low rate of duty on it. Road going vehicles must only use pure diesel which has a very high duty.. The penalties for using red diesel in a road going vehicle are severe.
