Makar Kraŭcoŭ's poem "March of the Warriors" (Also known as "We Shall March in Joint Endeavour") was published on October 30, 1919 in the newspaper "Belarus", the music of the anthem was subsequently written by Uladzimier Teraŭski. The anthem of the Belarusian People's Republic was adopted in 1920, when the state de-facto no longer existed, and its leadership was in exile. The anthem was actively used by organizations of the Belarusian diaspora who stood for independence. After the restoration of Belarus’s independence in 1991, there were proposals to make "Vajacki marš" the national anthem of the Republic of Belarus once again, along with adopting the "Pahonia" and white-red-white flag as national symbols. Today, the anthem enjoys certain popularity among the Belarusian democratic opposition and is traditionally mentioned as one of the possible alternatives to the current anthem.
