Thank you SO much for covering this! Having a first csection but wanting a big family is my same concern!! Love the vbac content!!!!

I've had an emergency c section after a long labour, a vbac and then an elective section (in that order) The vbac took the longest to recover from (bad tear/blood transfusion etc).

Thanks so much for all of this ! I have had two VBACs after a c section. The biggest benefit for the vbacs was being able to walk, eat and drink within an hour after the birth. However, I had a stage 2 tear with both vbacs and I feel the long term recovery has been about the same. But that’s just my experience! Each pregnancy and birth has been so different and beautiful!

Are you saying that your tear might be due to having had a c section?
@Cloggindancer

@@sossoft not at all. My ob told me that second degree tears are very common in vaginal births, VBAC or not.

@@sossoft with all three births, it took about three weeks to really start to feel better. It was just a matter of where I was sore- with the c section, I had a sore abdomen. With the VBAC, my vagina and the surrounding areas were sore.

Me too. I tore very badly with my vbac and lost 1.5 litres of blood. Aside from recovering from the tear, the anaemia from the haemorrhage was dreadful and took about 6 months to go away. I also got a prolapse which was fun!

Alva baby pocket diapers with the 5 layer charcoal inserts have been a lifesaver for our girl’s sensitive bum and so inexpensive and landfill friendly compared to disposable options ! My husband was not on board when I ordered them but now at every diaper change he tells “look how much this one held!! :D “

Congratulations on baby boy!! Hope everything goes well for you again. Depending on how comfortable you are, save the pull-ups. In my experience in child care they've been basically overpriced diapers. When she really is showing interest and you really want to go hardcore on the potty training maybe consider taking away diapers all together and going commando. I know the floors and everything are a big stressor but it helps them a little bit with some kids. It doesn't work for everyone but just something to keep in the back of the mind because when you think about where the diapers sits and where underwear sits, they're basically the same position and for some kids underwear feels very similar to a diaper. Like I said, this won't work for everyone but it's just something to try if everything else doesn't work

Please tell the facts and dangers about repeat C-sections. The risk is less after the first surgery but each surgery after increases complications.

I disagree that the reason for a c section can tell if TOLAC should be considered or not. For example, a 2005 study demonstrate that the supposed risk of VBACC is not correctly justify at least in the way that it is expressed by AGOC and current provider. There is not enough qualitative data but AGOC also does not acknowledge that the percentage usually cited for the rate of uterine rupture is misleading as it historically includes uterine dehiscence. This means that I could have safe vaginal delivery but that providers will coerce me into having repetitive c section. We have to acknowledge that one of the reason there is a lot of data on vbac that has permitted women with low transversal incision to go through vbac was the push of insurance companies in the 90s. I started making research because the answer I would get was simply no you must have c section because of the previous one you had. Come to find out that no provider actually read studies and uses critical thinking from it. And also, many studies conclusions were based on expert opinion instead of solid evidence based studies. This is concerning to me as a woman now considered at risk just because I'm 36 and who wants to have a large family. C sections are not without risks and it is well documented that the more you have, it increases the chances of you having complications in future pregnancies.

I had a c-section, and I felt completely back to normal after 3 weeks. However, I have heard horror stories of women who are dealing with painful sex/urination/incontinence DECADES later. When you say "recovery", do you actually mean that the person will feel normal again, or that the person can get pregnant again sooner?

Question for you for next week…. You have covered a lot about introducing solid to baby and starting the weaning phase but what about the next steps? My babe is 10 months accepting solids well (BLW approach) and getting 4 milk feeds a day (first thing upon waking, after 1st and 2nd nap and last thing before bed). I am worried about cutting milk out too fast/too soon. I’m trying to let her take the lead but I also know until she is one milk is her primary source of nutrition. Are 4 milk feeds enough? How do I know when it’s okay to cut the other feeds? She doesn’t seem to ask for (show signs of wanting/needing them) most days but will still nurse if offered? We dropped an evening feed when she dropped her 3rd nap about a month or ago and she just started dropping her last over night (4am) feed. I am a little worried that dropping both of those back to back leave her not getting enough milk since she isn’t 1 yet. Any guidance/recommendations for weaning, schedule/best practices?

Can you go over when doctors tell you that you have a “big baby” based on ultrasound measurements and recommending a c-section. I have had several friends recently be told that they have a “big baby,” being over 9 lbs and then the baby’s are born in the low 8 lb range so they may not have needed a c-section after all. If you decide to try to have a vaginal birth anyway, what are the risks?

I have my fingers crossed that there will be a vbac in my future. Not even pregnant yet, I am going to wait this last baby is 2 before we start trying. My OB was hopeful since my first baby was a vaginal delivery, second baby had distress at time of pushing. My personal feeling is that the 4 days of the max dose of pitocin to try to bring baby down with those strong contractions probably played a role. The recovery was so much harder after the c section, I would like to avoid that if possible. I looked very much like someone had taken a baseball bat to my abdomen after the c section. Lots of "oh, honey" and "ouch" from basically anyone who had to check my incision. But it was gone by 2 weeks after.

Thank you very much for this. What’s an appropriate interval between pregnancies - if you had a c-section for the first pregnancy and plan on having a c-section for the second pregnancy. I’ve struggled to find evidence about risk of uterine rupture or other complications as a function of pregnancy interval. Thank you

This is a long shot but my child is 5 weeks old. I took him for his 1 month check up and his respiration rate was at 90 and his chest retracts while breathing and heart rate was fine and also oxygen levels. We went to the ER and echocardiogram of the heart and Xray of the lungs came back fine. One Doctor told us its normal while another Doctor said it is not and they don't know what's wrong with him. According to my Doctor she has never seen this before which I find hard to believe. Can you offer your input on this?

I have been implementing Elimination Comunication (EC) sometimes. And my 12 months old poops in his potty, and pee after each nap in the potty. Our next step is teach him the sign or the word to say potty.

We stared doing ec with our girl at 6 weeks. Coming up on 10 months now and we are in the same boat as you. We catch all her poops and any after nap, after/before outing pees are pretty easy. We do the sign for toilet every time we put her on it but she hasn’t started doing it back to us yet. I love EC, we cloth diaper as well and I feel like the two go well together cause it giver her a better sense of what is happening since she can actually feel herself get wet.

parent training not potty training. In no way is your baby able to read their body ques and communicate the need to use the potty to you. Most likely you are setting your 12 month old infant up for failure. My opinion

Hi- here with the feedback nobody asked for & it may feel like trolling but it’s not bc I’m trying to give constructive criticism & feedback. Take it or leave it, of course…. -It feels like she’s out of breath when talking and microphone is too close to clothes…. The breathy talking may be nervousness but it’s very distracting and it’s recurring among most videos. She’s also generally taking over videos & talking over him alot of the time… it’s so uncomfortable to watch. I’ve stopped watching bc it’s a bit cringe.. there are no DM’s on KZitem or else I’d submit it there. Hopefully, they’ll see this… Good content tho! Thanks
