Listening to Chael talk leglocks from such an obvious beginner's perspective is simultaneously fun and annoying. Only the GOAT can walk such a line.

@mensrea1251

Meh, the terms of a match like that would be pretty complicated. Gordon probably has upper hand over Roger in no gi while the opposite is true for gi. So, yeah, it would have to be set up in way to minimize controversy afterwards regardless of results. Maybe one match in each format? It would risk an inconclusive result if each won one, but maybe that’s as close to the truth of a Gordon v Roger BJJ match anyway… anyway it’s a match I would break quarantine and pay the fine to watch.

Can someone explain the ending? Seems like the commentator was saying CJ made VR tap, because he had something in the bottom half (legs?), yet I didn't see a tap and/or any submission hold by CJ.

CJ made VR tapped in the bottom half of the over time with a rnc (maybe a neck crank) That’s what Chael Sonnon, the commentator, meant by bottom half

Other than spider web and back mount for over time is there a third leg advantage position that could be offered? I think that is what these EBI rules format needs. A 3rd leg advantage position
@perrypelican9476

That overtime thing is ridiculous. Jiu jitsu should be 20 minute rounds of submission only. Keep going until there is a submission. Then you find out who is the better grappler. If it is close then fitness can win. But the grappler with the most skill is likely to win most of the time in submission only. This overtime thing doesn't prove anything. Just to have a winner every match is not my idea of how to do it. You want a ruleset that is better for the better athlete. Do you want a ruleset that helps the less skilled grapplers? Well, that is what this overtime system is. Useless!

@Chocolatito Maravilla I think a lot of people do not like no time limits. You have to pace yourself, which means less activity all around. I'm a pretty big grappling fan and I have absolutely zero interest in no time limits unless it's some crazy awesome match-up like Roger Gracie coming back to compete against Gordon Ryan. I get that there are people who do want to see no time limits but I think that's a pretty small market.
@mensrea1251

I get what you’re saying and it’s what a purist would say so I respect that… but it’s pretty impractical and would ensure that bjj remain a super niche sport. Early days UFC was no rounds, no weight classes, no time limits and all in one day. It’s romantic and manly, but it proved unwatchable for all but the hardcore fans. It took rounds, weight classes, rules to allow UFC to take off. Packaging matters in the real world.
