Thank you Michael - a lot of other people weren't aware of it either until my video landed. I try to avoid the most popular parts of the Westcounty and spotlight the lesser know places. Thanks again, Paul.

Hi Paul, just came across this video. The fenced off site with the crane is still in use for transporting nuclear waste not cargo from Sharpness. Nowadays it’s low level waste eg clothing etc. from nuclear research stations in southern England carried in specialist containers not flasks. The service is usually operated by double headed Class 68’s, occasionally a 68 and 88 owned by DRS. The trains go down into Sharpness where the engines run around and then return to Berkeley to reverse into the site for loading/unloading from lorries. The service is quite regular with one or two trains most weeks arriving about 9.15 and departing at lunchtime. Best TonyS

Thank you Tony for that really useful additional information. I will probably pop down there again later in the year to see if there is progress at both this site, and at the Sharpness end of things. Thanks again, Cheers, Paul 👍

A very interesting video Paul, The Curve from Berkeley Loop Junction to Berkeley South Junction was closed on 27th January 1963 it was removed on the 7th July 1963 but interestingly it was last used much earlier in November 1960. You're quite right the Parkinson's Walks video on the curve is very good, it was done on my suggestion and it might be worth you doing one as well given how good your videos are. Andrew.

Hi Andrew! Great to hear from you again. I have lots of Railway Series ones planned, including sections of the S&D and more from Devon and Cornwall. I think one of the reasons for this curve was so that the Severn Railway Bridge route could be used as a diversion after the Severn Tunnel opened, in case the tunnel was temporarily closed for engineering and flooding. I have a video on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway (Part 1) arriving on my channel in a couple of hours. Take care, Paul 👍🙂

Hi Paul, You are quite correct about the use of the Berkeley Loop Junction to Berkeley South Junction Curve. When the Severn Bridge became damaged there would have been no need for this section of track hence it was recovered as I stated in my comment. I must admit I watch very little on KZitem now but I will have a look at some more of your videos soon. Take Care. Andrew.

Thanks Paul. I need videos such as yours to keep me informed of these good news things because I've stopped using the British Main Stream media due to their spreading false news. I urge curious people to follow the link that Paul Provided regarding the vale of Berkely Railway company. I'll add to its content by stating that the passenger service across the Severn from the Lydney side was supported by school children from the Forest of Dean attending schools in the Berkely vale.

Thank you John. Yes, one of the main passenger users of the Severn Railway Bridge was indeed schoolchildren. It would be lovely to see Berkeley Station rebuilt. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul

I was there today and all the notice boards and signal are gone and the station building foundations have been covered back over I can only assume that the VofB rly has unfortunately lost access to this site since you visited last year

Hi Stephen - yes, I, too, have recently ( a week ago revisited this site, as I am in the process of making an update video about the VofB, and I have been looking at their progress (a lot!) at the Sharpness end of things. But, yes, I was shocked to see all of the foundation bricks of the former Berkeley Station have been uprooted and chucked in the corner by that hut on the opposite side. I really don't know what is going on there, as NR are really only interested in access now up to the (now infrequently used) nuclear flask dock which is closer to the Berkeley Road side of things. It is very strange! I have sent them an email - if I find out more I will include it in the video. Cheers, Paul.

@@westcountrywanderings I was at the Thornbury Model Railway show last year and the VofB rly had a stand with a large O gauge model of Berkeley station as it was I thought it looked like standard MR station architecture (think Bitton) but they said that Berkeley had a number of unique features which they hoped to recreate

@@stephenchappell7512 It sounds like something has gone wrong fairly recently then. Maybe one of the residents of that adjacent property (ies?) had VofB connections, but they no longer live there? It's unlikely to be NR, as they have been very helpful to the VofB so far. It's such a shame.

@@westcountrywanderings Yes maybe the station site belongs to new owners of the former station masters house and the VofB rly has been told they're no longer welcome
