@@PaulBondMusic the Valeton GP200 is vastly superior to the zoom G1Xfour in tone and most other respects - I was surprised how bad the rhythm / drums sound on the Valeton, I mean how hard is it to find good midi tones or samples these days ?!?!? Beyond that, the Valeton has replaced the zoom on my pedal board - in fact, I even built a new pedal board with the GP200 as the center piece - back to the question of tone, yes the Valeton GP200 sounds fabulous live and recorded 👍

The clean amp sim I use mostly is fender 65 reverb and the dirty amp sim is would you believe a Soldano.!! Love it.... The IR associated IR are choptones and are great.. Sometimes I switch the Soldano to a 4x12 celestion greenback IR.. Both are great. As you rightly say a small number of amp sims and IR are enough. No need to have 100's of speaker IR.. You just don't need it.. Good luck to you too....

Maybe some videos on how you get your tones might be good also have you changed the global eq. Many thanks
@PaulBondMusic

The GP200 doesn't have 'speaker outputs' as such, just 'line outputs', so the chain is: Valeton > Interface > Monitors. Regarding your SOLO interface, I routinely only use the valeton in Mono which may come as a surprise! Of course if I am using the built in Delay or Reverb, I will absolutely use stereo, but I would say at least 80% of the time, I'm in mono, so you're good to go with the one input, and use FX in your DAW of choice, or even on your interface if you are using a Universal Audio solo.

I barely use any modeler's pedals, amps, cabs and mics and even less of the time and depth based effects, but this has so damn many that I shouldn't go on the thin side. Even eats my Line 6 Helix and spits it out. I no longer use anything else. They are all redundant now. I honestly would. There are other options, such as the more compact Boss pedal, but for the money, I still don't think this can be beaten for features and importantly: ease of use!

When I first got the gp200 I was a little unimpressed out of the box , into a high quality set of IEM . After a couple of months , I began really digging at it and demanding what I wanted from it, it does deliver...First and foremost, you must get the onboard global EQ set to taste...after getting all 4 parametric bands set, and getting the hi and low cut cuts set , all of the amp sims sound pretty great....I think from the factory the global input preamp volume is also a little too hot....I have found the amp sims are more of snapshots ,rather than simulations. They don’t maintain a feel or sound very far off from the 50% they come programmed at...However, they do allow a lot of tweaking into what could be mod territory of those amps, which I kind of like..the effects are passable, but honestly could use more tweakabilty...Overall I must agree , that after proper set up , the Valeton stuff sounds and feels really good, and I have become very happy to be its owner...

Totally agree with you.After about over 6 months of weekly pub gigs, the most important thing was the adjustment of the global EQ. High cut and low cut are necessary as well as other EQ corrections. Compared with other high-priced Multi effects, the delay Mod and reverb series may be related to the chip, and there is a gap in quality. But in terms of live performance, the difference is not very big. But its ease of operation is great and intuitive. Honestly at this price point there is nothing to complain about.I hope Valeton can launch higher-end products in the future

Hey Paul. Awesome review and I’ve now checked out your other videos and they are all great. Clear honest opinions from someone who has had plenty of experience and clearly knows what they are doing. I’m considering something like the Valeton GP200 based on recent gigging experience. Last year I bought myself the BOSS Katana Artist MKll 100W Head and matching 2x12 Waza cabinet. I also purchased BOSS’s GA-FC EX expression pedal which lets you switch between 8 preset channels + whatever is dialled in on the panel and you can also add remove effects to each preset on the fly. It’s a clever piece of kit but, a) I haven’t spent enough time using the software to really dial in my tones and it does tend to sound a bit thin compared to the other guitarist in the band b) They are both large/heavy bits of kit and I’ve been to a few gigs recently where our band have 5 or 6 songs and need to quickly get onstage and setup as the previous band come off. I’ve always played through an amp/cab and had that sound blasting out behind me. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on maybe switching to the Valeton which will make it quick and easy for me to take my sounds onstage. Also, I wonder if the Valeton would work through a passive guitar cabinet, (maybe I could try it through the BOSS cab)? Appreciate your help and keep these sort of videos coming. 🤘😎🎸

I have a slew of high end tube amps and most of my analog pedals on my board cost more than the gp200. I picked one up as a practice tool for headphones and opened it last night. I spent about 5 hours straight playing and smiling. It's good, really good. I agree, strip it down to the amp and build from there. I certainly found sounds I didn't like at all, but so many I did. I'm really enjoying this and plan to use it for recording soon. Great value for dollar that's for sure.

The problem with Tonex is the amp sims they package it with are crap. I have used Tonex to create models of my amps and I love it. That said, it is strictly an amp in a box. You have peaked my interest in the GP 200, and at that price it is really hard to go wrong.

If you could be bothered to do a third video on the unit: I'd like to use it in the 4 cable method with a tube amp that has an effects loop. I'm asking myself if the boost pedals in the unit would "push" the front end of a tube amp properly. Also, the GP 200 has a global eq with a high cut option that could help in cutting out the high end hiss of a bad speaker. But would that work in the intended way in the 4 cable method? The GP 200 really is a special unit because it has warm sounds although it's digital, and to my ears it sounds as good as the AXE Effects FM9. But that's 4 times the price. Cheers!

Dumb question from @2:46 in your video; Can you explain how kemper amp profiling differs from importing an IR file to the Valeton. I (wrongly) assumed the 2 things were pretty similar. Many thanks.
@PaulBondMusic
4 ай бұрын
So - a profing system like the Kemper 'samples' an amp sound. So you can download the HiWatt that David Gilmour used on Dark Side of The Moon for example. It is a 'sample' of that actual amp. A modelling amp or amp sim, uses algorithms to make a sound-alike of a particular amp. Sometimes a profiler is better ... sometimes not. We have a lot of choices these days.

That is a GREAT question! I don't put ANYTHING on in the unison port and the reason for that is, that I like to make my final decision when mixing. I can always put some sexy Neve stuff on there if needed afterwards. I currently mix extensively with my SSL UC1, so put an SSL channel strip on everyting that I'm mixing. It works great!

Fully agree! Such a great pedal for so little money. I play since 35 years and am still amazed by the quality of the sounds - especially the amps are state of the art. the Pedals could be better but over they are absoluetly usable. I use the GP-200 with 2 DV Mark Power Cabs. The Speaker Simulation off of course when using it that way. The stereo effects are amazing trough that setup. Realy gigable. Love it. Share the same feelings as you when talking about that medal. The Soldano. the Mesa Boogies, so many good amps in one box. I will be getting the new Fractal FM3 Turbo and already look forward the 2. There for sure will be some quality differences but I wonder how big they are...(sorry, english is my 3rd language).
