Good video guys. I have a mechanical detach that I bought about 2 months ago now, it's an extendable too. I'll say this; doing this on 100% LEVEL solid ground, and empty...looks easy and it is. BUT...when you're not as lucky as these guys and are slightly off level, and a little softer ground, it's a completely different deal. I just moved 4 railcars that weighed 55k each. The problems started once loaded and trying to get back underneath the load to reattach. Every time, the trailer had settled down a bit because of ice/snow under it, so even with the suspension dumped completely, the plates on the gooseneck weren't low enough to reattach to the deck. I struggled badly with this the first load, until I bought a couple of 12 ton bottle jacks to be able to jack the deck up a couple inches in some cases, to meet the proper height for the plates to connect to the pins, and put the keepers back in place. So empty, light loads and perfect level conditions are great. Add some soft ground, uneven ground, and big weight, and these mechanical necks will make you struggle. Best advice I can give is to carry a couple of hydraulic bottle jacks and some hardwood planks and pieces to get yourself out of a mess.

Appreciate the info but I've really never had no trouble well maybe a little the most I've carried is gross than 110,000 and it was tough getting reconnected but you just got to get her in there and push it hard sometimes the trailer wants to slide so you almost got to get it running start and be ready to hit the brakes so you don't slam it too hard but other than that it's been all gravy but I do know what you're talking about the heavier your load and the more uneven your ground is then the harder it is thanks for subscribing

@@strapschainstruckingwithrj2758 That's why I commented on this video. My main concern is getting back under them with big weight. I can't stand slamming and banging things, 40+ years of being around has taught me to be gentle as possible. Plus, I'm the one writing the checks, lol. I'm glad I watched the video, but it convinced me that I'm going to invest in a system that I can control the lift and leveling to make it better for the truck, driveline, differentials, and my mind. My projects are a little more complex than the every day run of the mill truckload, and I have to think outside the box more than the average fella...

What's the starting pay? Do they hire out of Northern California? Do they hire older drivers? I have 16.5 years of operating equipment in the military, and a year of hauling equipment out of an equipment rental yard.

Probably 56 to 58 but if you do more than five axle you run salary and yes they hire older people too as long as you get a good driving record a good history if you decide make sure you use my name as a referral that way you will have a great dispatcher Ron Jordan
