Bottas didn’t fail at Mercedes in any sense of the word & he should be extremely proud of his performance with the team. He was the perfect teammate for Lewis & consistently did his job as the second driver for the team. Bottas is a huge reason why Lewis has secured so many WDC’s & Mercedes won so many WCC’s. Wait until next season, having Russell as a teammate will definitely give Lewis trouble & I think we will see something similar to the Nico/Lewis situation. The seat at Alfa-Romeo will be great for Bottas, even though the car will be a step down in pace, he’ll be able to show his worth & skill without the worry of being told to hold back for his teammate.

Just reading some comments, not having listened the interview yet. Bottas is in my opinion one of the best nr2 drives the sport has seen in 70 years. Not a failure, but that loyal, helping hand that almost invisibly does so much work and puts in so many solid results. Like in football, you cannot have 11 stars on the field, you need some watercarriers. And Bottas is the best at that. Highly undervalued, underappreciated and the unintelligent masses claiming to be "fans" should just shut up and look in awe at him. They cannot do even half of what he did. After listening.. My respect for Bottas has improved. He feels honest, sincere and is a coffee drinker! I hope his years at AlfaRomeoSauber team will be rewarding and successful. He deserves a lot more respect and appreciation. The mental aspect of racing at the highest level, race after race with al the external pressures on top of your own expectations and dreams. Every F1 racer desrves massive respect for being able to perform for a decade on that level.

@@danielwebb9188 no he cant. Merc dont hamper his pitstops. Merc gave him the chance to fight for the title in 2019 and 2020. 2020 he almost lost 2nd place to max even with a faster car. 2019 he wasnt even close to lewis. Im sorry but valterri isnt on the level of lewis and max

Fantastic interview btw, probing but kind questioning, no interruptions, kudos. Bottas indeed seems to be a very gracious and balanced person who understands the risks/rewards of the sport.

Love Bottas. A wonderful driver and person. The pressure from Merc and being LH teammate is enough to break anyone. I think he did very well all things considered and was always consistent over the course of a season minus in rain!

How is he managing be so blunt about his time at Mercedes without assigning blame and causing drama? It's truly fascinating. Very mature and thoughtful. Willing to critique both himself and external factors fairly.

Enjoyed this interview TC. As a long time Merc fan, over the last 2yrs, my respect for Porridge Boss grew more. Very candid and relatable and in his quirk, quite entertaining. Gonna miss having him in Merc. Fins tend to be modest people.

Thanks Valtteri for sharing, great driver, really struggled with car set up and tyres until Pirelli changed the build, now really getting the best from the car, it’s showing, keep going, looking forward to your seat with Alfa. Don’t take negative social media comments to heart, probably less than 1% have been on the other side of the wall on the car, it’s a different world, the public don’t know the complexity. Just be you, you are a winner Oh yes the coffee !!! Best regards

I'm so glad to hear him say that the break made him realize F1 isn't the end all be all, that he can find joy after his career. That's something that always concerns me about athletes--they live and breathe the sport so many of them don't know who they are outside of it.

when he said he performed so well in 2014 because he knew he'd be there for a year or two..that security of having a drive is so crucial in f1..which obviously mercedes never offered him

Bottas has been through a lot this passed years but I think he'll be better after joining Alfa Romeo. I can feel from this podcast that he is looking back to what made him genuinely happy when he decided to became a racing driver. Hope he'll find it either in formula 1 or elsewhere. Focus on what makes you happy and leave the rest behind, Much love. Unsaid Facts.
