For years I had been ignoring the elephant in the room when it came to one obvious problem... The 460 was getting more tired and needed further and more extensive maintenance. Now the correct way to fix this issue is to have the heads rebuilt and new valve guides installed. Not happening. So sometimes there is a band-aid to a situation like this, by swapping the most likely trashed valve stem seals. This course of repair I've found to temporarily permanently fix the oil use/burn on startup (puff as you start up) or minor burning at idle or acceleration. This doesn't solve every situation, but I've found to do 98% of the cases I've run across.
Even though this is performed on a 429/460 Ford, the process of changing valve stem seals are very much similar on any other OHV engine.
Follow along and let me show you how I do it... !
