Most smaller domestic fridges use mechanical thermostats. Best bet would be to turn your inverter on with that and then bypass the stat to the compressor so it just comes on when the internal stat kicks in. Loving your videos, really interested in the Sun Trip race and the bike you built. Keep them coming! Congrats on the win! 🎉😊

Yes i would have liked to do that and your right it makes more sense. But this way the fridge is unaltered during warrenty. Thanks a lot!!

After years of fighting with 3way fridges, used poor performing Waecos, last year I made the switch. 2kw peak Pure sine wave inverter and 150€ supermarket 60lt fridge, I've seen the light! And I couldn't believe the power meter showing it consumed less and my icecream was frozen :D Glad to see you coming into this world, I lived the van life for a few years, learning from mistakes along the way and you're def. ahead of the curve. What batteries are you using? Keep it up, it will come up amazing

I'm using my lithium ebike batteries as they are easy to put in a rucksack and charge inside places in the winter

You've shown us the light Jack! Using a thermostat to start the inverter is a brilliant idea. Thank you.

I don’t know. I’m left a bit cold by the idea of the cheapest option being the best ;-)

Hey there, thanks for the vid. One thing that I wasn’t entirely clear on is the ‘limiter’ for the compressor. If the thermostat is triggering the inverter (on), it is because the temp is getting warm, correct ? So, that would create the (need) for compressor to cool. I understood that you don’t want the compressor cycling on-off-on constantly, but if the thermostat is calling for Cooling, how does the compressor delay/limiter serve optimal cooling ? Thanks again

The limiter is timer based so it stops it from cycling more than once in a set time.

@@JackButlerVideos thanks. I understood that part, but if the thermostat is telling the fridge (compressor) to Cool, and the Limiter is telling it ‘not to’ …… ?

@@StansE250 it waits for the timer to expire and then it starts.

The Waeco fridge is using a lot more on 24 or 12 V due to different tech used. The are using no compressor usually and therefore 4 times higher power consumption but they offer 12V and 230 V and Gas ... and gas ist the most convenient way cause hugh amount of energy in the gas stored. These multi power capable fridges are expensive ... and the usual Mobile home does not allow to power it from the living space battery. It only can run conneted to the grid or while engine and therefore the generator are running delivering the high amps needed. AC fridges are cheap for 1 simple reason: mass production and therefore scale of economy - far lower production cost. There would be another solution to build a timer into the inverter that runs parallel to the switch. Every 30 minutes it turns on for 15 minutes and then the power is there and the fridge would run if it is too warm. Would not need another line like sensor. But your approach is right to measure temperature by a 12 V device that controls a relay that will power up the inverter ... but needs a line across the van in most cases.

Yea i agree the waeco will probably use more! but as i was arguing against it i wanted to give it the advantage. However the one i was talking about uses a compressor and is not 3-way. Yea the timer would be a nice simple solution!

I like your wagos. I see you started using 3 wire wagos for 2 wires, that means next is a DC fridge in a Tesla
