Can all just appreciate how cool Alex Van Halen is? And how criminally underrated he is as an all-time great drummer.

I think what Eddie is telling everyone here is that.. instead of wasting half your life trying to replicate his style and tone.. spend more time trying to create your own identity and sound. I’m sure he is happy you are inspired by his greatness. Steve Vai, Satriani, and many others were influenced by Van Halen.. but have created a name of their own

Dude they represented partying and having a great time in the 80’s. Larger than life , especially for a young 14-15 year old kid back in the early 80’s. Such great times. And the music was incredible. 🏁🍺

Ed also went through some very rough times and here he seems quite at ease and enjoying the moment. In fact it makes me quite sad seeing him in such good spirits knowing he’s no longer with us. Such talent

I’d always thought these guys ended on bad terms but here it just seems like mutual admiration and camaraderie which I find immensely heart warming. There was a lot of harsh words passed around prior to this.

I could sense a few uneasy moments from Al in this video. Overall, it was fun to watch and listen to these guys reminisce. They are one of the most dysfunctional hard rock bands ever but simply phenomenal at making music together. Had Michael Anthony been part of this reunion, he would have been the icing on the cake.

I wish they talked about the old days more . I've only read or seen or heard very little of their lousy record deal . This two part deal explains why the albums were only a little over a half hour during their beginning . Unlike ex-wife number two , they don't publicly bitch about anything and everything . They never really talked about their complaints from music critics .

Roth is hilarious. He asks them questions and then answers them himself. So annoying but in a lovable sort of way. I can see how they could only take so much of him.

When Dave interrupts Al at 8:00 it’s just kind of interesting because it makes me think of how it would have been back in the day with Diamond Dave. Alex’s body language until he speaks again just shows how he is internalizing the anger behind the interruption. Notice his hands and the SNIFF of annoyance hahah. I can only imagine what this was like after Al had consumed 3 bottles of Vodka and Dave just cutting him off mid conversation back in 1984. Anyways. Good video. Wish Mikey was there. But rip EVH. The god of Heavy Metal.

And to think will never have this again. Thank god I saw them many times starting in 1984 with my uncle. The son of a bitch was supposed to take me the year before and I even bought a ticket but he had given my ticket to a girl. Hence I didn't go. But I made sure I went the next year with him. I can still smell the weed and cigarette smoke. I can still feel the sticky beer on my feet. I remember David Lee Roth singing hot for teacher while holding one leg in the air and bouncing on the other. 👍👍💯💯

IF you're being interviewed with Dave, then you could take a 20 minute break and no one would know you were gone. I always got the feeling that Eddie and Alex (especially Alex) were afraid to play with anyone but each other. Alex still hasn't organized a tribute to his brother, which is a travesty.

I don't think DLR was "great" . I don't think Alex was "great" . I don't think Michael was "great". I don't think VH music was "great". I do think Eddie was "GREAT". Their songs were fast paced party songs and covers . They aren't deep or profound or too meaningful in content. Not musically complex or difficult to grasp. What you hear is what you get. It filled an empty space that needed filling . Eddie was everything . The others came along for the ride. Alex was a solid good drummer but there were plenty of those at the same time and he wasn't the best of them . He was certainly very good. Dave had a presence that fit the attitude and not much else. NOT a real singer he was more a guy who talked his way through the song with an occasional high pitched screech . People give him way too much credit. Think about all the truly GREAT singers and it puts him in perspective. All show . Which is cool and nothing wrong with it. But that don't make you "great". Mike barely cut the mustard . Voice was good and a much needed high but that isn't "great". Eddies greatness was one dimensional and limited . Some of his stuff sounds so out of place and unmusical but back then people were shell shocked and star struck . His ability to POSE was GREAT! Perhaps the GREATEST photogenic guitar player ever. Some of the images of him live are truly GREAT. So great that they stood the test of time and still seen as some of the most iconic rock images that were ever taken. VH was a very good band. Seen them a dozen times or so. 1978 was my first .
