“Duct tape: the handy man’s secret weapon.” -Red Green. A ‘believe it or not’ use of duct tape was to repair the damage caused by a bear on the fuselage of a bush plane. Apparently, the bear ripped apart the fabric of the plane, looking for food. The pilot couldn’t have the airplane dismantled, and carted out of the bush, so the idea was to wrap the damaged area (most of the aft fuselage) and fly the airplane out. It was a success. Also, the TV series, Myth Busters, did a segment on the very same idea. Keep ‘em coming Dee, I love your videos! 🤗

Superglue works great (better than liquid bandage) for the painful little cracks you can get near your fingernails in the winter. Also--a chopstick (with the drawstring taped on) makes it easy to thread a drawstring that has pulled out of a hoodie! My favorite: I stuck a disposable plastic straw in the area around the headlight of my car when the rubber surrounding the headlight got dried out and broken and kept flapping out. The same straw's been in there five years now!

Oh Dee, lovely tips! I eat 1 to 2 bananas a day and I had no clue it could do all that as well! I do have a metal straw packed up in my camping gear. I sew so I will always have thread. Lol I plan to use my cargo box I just installed for partial fabric storage and my sewing machine. I just got done doing one final sort through my clothes. I can't believe all the bags of clothes I already got rid of and now I have 2 more. Crazy! I still have quite a few clothes but sensible items. They are all in packing cubes and labeled. I do have a ton of fake jewelry that I used to wear all the time when I worked in offices but now that I clean I don't. However, I plan to wear it once I'm done with the cleaning job and travelling so it's in storage bins for now. I sewed up a few zipper roll up organizers for it for when I'm in the van. 4 more weeks! I still have your recipes for the face wash and such and I plan to make those one rainy day in the van once I gather the ingredients. All my cabinets and drawers are empty minus the food and a few dishes in the kitchen. I want to be able to walk out and and leave when the day comes. Lol now it is time to start my build. I plan to buy the materials next week. I'm hoping 4 weeks will be enough but if motni can stay with my sister for a couple of weeks before I have to move into a van. Oh guess what? I'm oddly excited about this but tomorrow a friend of mine is teaching me how to do my brake pads and rotors on my van and she plans to teach me more as well. She will also be helping me with my build, thankfully. Okay, I've rattled on enough. Hehe thank you for the wonderful tips as always! Happy trails!

I had a bone spur, very painful. The doctor wrapped it with tape that had a sticky side, and told me to see him again in two weeks. His tape didn't last a week. When I saw him again, he had to cut off what I had put on. "What is this?" Duct tape. "But it's white!" It comes in white now. "How did you know how to tape it; it's better than mine." I watched you. "I'm going to get some and use it from now on." He also had carefully cut my tape job, under and over and around the ankle, so he could use it as a pattern. I imagine duct tape would work for a sprained ankle, if you didn't have elastic bandage handy. I've also used duct tape to fix plumbing, when I rented a place where the bathroom sink drain pipe had a two inch gap. I always keep duct tape in my house and will in my campervan. :) Cheers. Thanks Dee, also with dental floss, the small mental cutter is great for taking on planes if you knit, crochet or sew, as it cuts the tread. My most used item is a small jar with a lid (ex pesto container) I can use it for making salad dressing, storing the last of the milk container, when I need to space for a fresh new container also hand for juice. Or cooking at a camp ground and only wanting to take a small amount of oil from the large container in my van. Making a shot of coffee that I want to cool down before adding it to a cold milk for iced drink… I’ve got one used for dog treats when the bag gets half empty. I’ve got one filled with layers of sand from places I visit. I’ve got one with a water plant in it. Duck tape is also excellent in First Aid kits ...for securing gause as well as skin cuts, taping or securing broken glass or torn tarp. ❤ Bananas can be cut up and boiled ...drink as soothing tea....or eat banana and just boil skin for tea ...either way 😊 A spool of black Spider Line ( fishing line ) ... also durable to sew anything... or even use as sutures. It holds knots better than the monophilament line.. Find a rock that fits comfortably in your grip, like a large russet potato 🥔 size ... to carry on hikes or keep in your van close at hand ti use as Self Defense. You don't throw it, you keep good grip ... and good aim... seriously. Grandfather was a Cop he had endless tips ❤ Buy extra nylon rope or paracord and make bracelets and necklaces and even belts so you can always unweave or unbraid it for long lengths of valuable rope. If you're wearing it, it's always handy 😊 ....and, have a Life Straw on a lanyard kept handy so you always have a way to purify pretty much any water source to drink ❤

The things I am going to mention are probably more for a survival situation, but can become pretty usefull in van life: - Garbage bags: prevent you from getting wet in case of emergency. - keeps you warm in cold days by putting them over your clothes. - you can store something in it. Just ordinary news paper- keeps you warm when you don't have the attributes in the winter. Wear them under your jacket or so. - when being wet, it even can be used as rope/ dread. More solid then you may thing. - even to wipe things or dry things - lipstick: this is a thing which most do not know of, but it can keep you warm with just a little wimp. Rub some lipstick over it, lit it and you do have a fire. Your own hair: may be you need it, maybe you don't. In case of emergency you can tie something up with it. It ofcourse obviously doesn't have to be things with any severe weight on it. Nails- always have a nail which is longer on the finger. I ripped a t-shirt to pieces with it (accidentally) And there are a few more, which I can't recall at this moment.... Nice video again! With love from the Netherlands ❤

The banana/avocado thing surprises me. I come from a family who loves fishing, to the point of my brother owning a 50’ boat that they tuna fish on whenever possible. It’s a common superstition that no bananas are allowed on the boat. It goes back to the days when food was brought to America on slow moving freighters, and they realized that anytime bananas were on board, everything else went bad really fast. According to Google, bananas give off high levels of ethylene, and that’s what ripens other fruits so fast.
@LadyBugout

@@LadyBugout I also think bananas ripen faster than other fruits. Maybe something to do with the stems since covering them is supposed to help them keep longer. To sharpen your tweezers with a nail file. Pinch the file between the points of the tweezers, then slowly drag the tweezers along the file. I usually flip the file over and swipe it on each side because the file has a different grit on each side. Sharpening them this way keeps the angle correct. If you just vigorously rub the file back & forwards you destroy the precision edge and the tweezers loose their ability to close completely and grip accurately over time.

So many useful hacks! The nail file thing on rust is something I need to try! Sadly, I do not like bananas so I'll never have those on hand lol. Also, now I really really want blundstone shoes now 😂

Some cool hacks there! I don’t think I’d trust banana skin as sunscreen here in Australia, because our sun is so strong, but I do love how you used dental floss! That stuff is strong! I recall people making duct tape wallets during that time when everyone was using it for all kinds of things. Hehe.

Thank you, Coralie!!! Hahaha yes, you’d probably have to duct tape a whole banana peel onto your face in Australia 😜

There’s a website called sharewaste.com that maps out where people are composting in the area and whether they will accept your compost. It’s not always an option, but at least my bags start and continue to decompose even if I have to throw it in a trash bin.

I have a special-needs daughter that loves to go camping, she stays in the van and I stay in my teardrop. One very cold night I was getting her ready for bed and realized the zipper on her sleeping bag was broken, no matter how many times I tucked it around her within minutes she inadvertently kicked it apart and was cold. I really was distressed, exhausted, cold, and just wanted to sleep. I leaned back after a quick prayer, and my head hit a shelf. Off fell a roll of duct tape,, hit me on the head and landed on my lap. Yes indeed, I duct taped her right into that sleeping bag that night and for the next week.

You wouldn't believe it, but when I was 16 I got a hole in my truck tire and the air was escaping fast. I rushed and pulled off to a gas station just knowing they would have fixaflat but they did not. I asked around to see if they had any in the back... no luck. So I did it... I grabbed the duct tape went out to my tire balled up some tape and push it into the hole with a screw driver then taped up the tire to hold the balled up tape. I filled it with air and didn't here any air coming out I rushed home and when I got there I noticed that the tape had gotten so hot it sealed up the tire.. so just like a kid I didn't think about it again for months
