It can never be underestimated how important Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is for Turkish people. As an English man, I recommend people to read about his life, his achievements and how he shaped a whole nation. Truly one of the greatest men in history and should always be respected.

Dear Marianne and Chris you shouldn’t leave Turkey without visiting the east and south part of it. You should go to Gaziantep, Mardin, Şanlıurfa, Hatay, Adana, Mersin...You should feel Turkeys oriental side a bit more. There are lots of great places to visit. I’m sure you’ll be impressed when you read a bit more about Ancient Anatolia . At least go and visit Şanlıurfa-Urfa and Göbeklitepe. You should see silversmithing and goldsmithing, old churches and caves. Also worldwide known Turkish food. Turkish Cousine is Not just Kebabs and pides. Ottoman kitchen was really rich if you’re looking for vegetarian food. I think you don’t want to miss ancient civilisations cultural heritages. Lots of love 💕

Another great video. A couple of things: Iskender Kebab gets its name from the man who invented it, and who invented donee kebab: Iskender Efendi in Bursa. If you go to Bursa there is a statue of him at the place he cooked this. Also: Lahmacun originates from south east turkey in Gaziantep and Urfa- it is spread with minced beef or lamb mixed in tomatoes and spices and you’re supposed to top it with the salad squeeze of lemon and roll it and eat it. My mouth is watering - it looked delicious. And lastly Ataturk - thank you so so much for going in his boat - he is my hero and there will never be a leader like him, he gave us our freedom, Turkey that you’re travelling through today, he gave us our language of today. Safe journey xx

Hey guys! What a great video! Let me first say this, Chris when you said " what a lovely rock formations here" as a geologist you got my attention immediately. I get excited very much. Those Rock formation was SEDIMENTARY rocks ( you possibly remember that from your earth science class,in middle school) and they looked like either sandstone/siltstone or mudstone. This part of the video was my BONUS. WOO HOO!!! Thanks Chris. You are the man! The Bandirma ship was great! I haven't seen inside if it before, yet I saw it in your great video. Thanks for that. Once again I am jelaous of you guys..you know why!! Pide..pide.pide and lahmacun. You should have put a little onion , parsley, chopped tomatoe cubes and squeeze a little lemon ( but not much) into lahmacun. I was surprised they did not suggest that. Next time try with these ingredients. Roll it up and eat. Yummy!! Thank you guys for the great video. One last thing, I was under the impression that you were heading to East not to West. But, I am glad that you are still in TURKIYE. Keep on traveling and showing us more of TURKIYE. Thanks and be safe always! You will be the Turkiye's ambassador to Great Britain possibly be appointed by our government.😍😍😍😂😂😂😂👍🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍

This comment is going to be a little longer than usual. Samsun is the center of Turkey´s tobacco (tütün) production managed by the State Monopoly (Tekel) that gave good revenue to the State. Maybe you´ll find a way of taking a look at the tobacco fields. It is strong, well perfumed and exclusive tobacco. A man´s cologne is made for those who love its virile perfume. Ask for Tütün Kolonyasi! Scotland was perhaps the main supplier of steel boats already from the times they were riveted. The boats were good even when second hand. There´s an interesting anectode with the Bandirma. It left Istanbul almost clandestinely, with the Turkish officers disguised as simple peasants, on purpose! A French lady who was among the passengers did not like that kind of company. Two nights later that same lady admired the handsome, clean shaven, young officers as the peasants had vanished. I miss the glass of ayran that would go very well together with all these pide or even a bottle of cold beer. Ayran tastes best with a few grains of salt in it. Every city has the classical Turkish restaurant, the "lokanta" with different dishes shown on hot platters: filled peppers, bean stew with meat, the usual pilav, the spinach stew with eggs on top. Try them too. To my Turkish palate pilav with some meaty bean stew on top is a delight. I am re-living Turkey through your eyes and your company. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. Selâmetle!

In 1815 Napoleon had a select cavalry called the "Grenadier à cheval". They were specifically selecting tall people who were mounting black horses, wearing tall bearskin hats and dressed up all in black, this regiment was used to intimidate the enemy. Guess what, according to the records the average grenadier à cheval's height was 5.4 feet tall. I guess people were smaller back then.

Hi guys! Yet another lovely video :) A couple (triple) tips: 1. İskender Kebap is indeed the favorite kebap of most Turkish people. It's originated from the city of Bursa. I was a little surprised that you haven't tried it before. 2. That unspoiled open coast road is like that, because it's built recently after filling in the sea with rocks. 3. I'm sorry to tell but that ship is a replica, not the original Bandırma. We haven't saved it :(

Hi all . The old tahir pass is spctacular. I went over it in late april 1973. It was in a mini bus just like Trudy with 11 other travelers

I think after Samsun city , you should also visit West of Black Sea. Amasra, Bartın, İnkumu and Cide. Now time is fresh fish time season and also you will find many historical places in Amasra. Good foods, old history and lovely people. Be safe and have a nice trip in Turkey.

Hello crazy guys 😃😃😃 just discovered your channel a few days ago, together with my father who is currently visiting me. Since then we have almost watched all episodes 😀 to be honest.... you are showing and explaining the life and spots in our home country in such a nice and funny way no one else could do. Thanks 🙂🙂🙂 I am from Şile near Istanbul which you have to visit, lovely spot at the cost with a nice harbour and beaches and also a pedestrian road.

@Gary Richardson hi, actually i am not there at the moment but my parents. Situation there regarding Covid is normal compared to Istanbul or at least not that risen. Same rules like in the rest of the country, wearing a mask is obligatory. Anyway, it is worth to see it even for a daytrip, it is fish season and you can catch a nice and sunny weather there even it is middle of OCT. I would recomend to go there at working days cause due to the near distance it could be overcrowded by Istanbulians in the WE, even now.

Samsun pide is good but it's best when you live there and you prepare your own ingredients for the filling. You then take it to a bakery and they'll make it into pides for you.
