Where has all the music gone? With nearly 73 I wonder why the so called musicians of today seem to have lost the ability to make a good song with only their voice and four instruments. You must leave, now take what you need You think will last But whatever you wish to keep You better grab it fast Yonder stands your orphan with his gun Crying like a fire in the Sun Look out baby, the saints are comin' through And it's all over now, baby blue The highway is for gamblers Better use your sense Take what you have gathered From coincidence The empty handed painter from your streets Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets The sky too is fallin' in over you And it's all over now, baby blue Leave your stepping stones behind There's something that calls for you Forget the debt you've left That will not follow you Your lover who has just walked through the door Has taken all his blankets from the floor The carpet too is foldin' over you And it's all over now baby blue Well, strike another match Yeah, go start new, go start new 'Cause it's all over now, baby blue Hey, hey, yeah It's all over, it's all over now, baby blue It's all, it's all over now, oh yeah It's all over now, all over now, baby

Me at 73 and still loving Van and Them. Many great memories especially one long night in Manchester at the Heaven and Hell Club. Heaven upstairs and Hell downstairs where many slept on the floor in the wee small hours. They played "Here Comes The Night" over and over again where it became welded to my brain. How anyone could sleep was beyond me.

When I first heard this song on a progressive rock station in the late 60's or early 70's I thought that it was one of the best songs The Rolling Stones ever did. I went to the record stores looking for this song on all of The Rolling Stones albums, they did a entirely different song called "It's all over now", so I thought that that's this song and took it home and was disappointed. Through out the 70's I kept looking for this great song on one of the many Rolling Stones records and was dumbfounded why I could never find it. Then after VAN did his 1982 album called "Beautiful Visions", he became my all time favorite musician so I started buying all of his past and future albums. Then one year, I think it was in the 1980's I purchased a Van album titled "THE BEST OF VAN MORRISON VOLUMN TWO", while listening to this great album I learned that this was a VAN song, not a Mick Jagger song! Just before this great song which was # 11 on that album was another great VAN song where the back ground music sounded very similar, the # 10 song titled "DON'T LOOK BACK". That great album also had IN THE GARDEN, RAVE ON JOHN DONNE PART1 AND PART2, ENLIGHTENMENT AND HYMNS TO THE SILENCE. This LP was greater then his greatest hits volume 1 album. In short for years from about 1968 to 1984 I thought Mick Jagger sang this great song. Van's even better then Mick Jagger!

+Ethan Sandler , Yes I remember this song as one of Dylan's so many great songs from the 60's, but THEM wasn't available to Americans in the 60's so when in the early 70's this song by Van (it sounded like Mick Jagger) came on one of those FM rock stations with very few commercials I taped it and just assumed it was The Stones, then purchased one of Van's greatest hits albums and found out that all that time this was a THEM or VAN song. Their both great versions I just think Van did a very unusual superior version.

+alan murr I caught this being played late night on an adult/contemporary radio station from time to time, not very often, maybe 2x a year. Like you always thought it was Jagger singing. Ran into it again later as part of the soundtrack to the movie Basquiat. Looking it up realized it was a Van Morrison song.
@alanmurr6562
8 жыл бұрын
+seniorjohnl , Actually VAN did this song with his group THEM way back in the 60's. Because of some kind of contract dispute us Americans never got to hear Van's great band. Like when they did GLORIA, a American group only got to sing GLORIA to Americans. They were called the Shadows of Night. But they did an even better job singing it then Van did.
