Looks like it uses a stabilator? Interesting.

What are the pros/cons in your mind with the stabilator?
@NikBeisert
Жыл бұрын
@@nickolaim8712 greater pitch authority, requires less deflection - overall a more efficient design in that sense. But it can be too sensitive and in some applications requires a way to dampen or reduce the pitch response. I'm mainly surprised by the decision from a tooling and testing perspective... I expect it requires unique tooling and testing / calibration that cannot be shared across other models. They must be expecting significant volume to justify a design that is unique to this model (and / or planning multiple high wing models that leverage the stabilator design investment). I believe the traditional elevator design benefits aerobatics where a steeper deflection may be needed at times, while the stabilator can benefit slow flight and widening the pitch authority at those lower air speeds.

@@NikBeisert I think they must've liked the slow flight characteristics of it when they used it in the RV-12 and brought it along for the ride

@@nickolaim8712 ah didn't realize RV-12 had a stabilator, good point

@@NikBeisert yes they used an anti-servo tab to balance the control forces
