Condolences Dave. In Salem it's more physical safety that's a concern to me. I live a few blocks from the most exclusive area in the area, but drug induced dangerous crime, such as shootings, home invasions, burglaries, assaults are more common than random property crimes. My next-door neighbor was shot in her driveway, with bullets ending up in my home, A former TSA agent who lived across the street confronted a young girl who was running drugs out of a MS-13 owned 4-plex and she opened fire on him and daughter. She was sentenced to 5 years, but he had to move due to threats from MS-13. Some of his family work for DEA and the Feds did do some interdiction but cautioned him that MS-13 may have operatives in local law enforcement, and even government. I was speaking to a lady who started a successful equipment rental business about the same time you did, and after her teenage doughtier was a victim of a traumatic abduction attempt, she had a similar late-night stealth home invasion, where thieves picked the lock to a patio door, stole her purse and both of their vehicles, and other crimes at her home and business, police do nothing about, she said as soon as they can sell the business and home she and her family are leaving Oregon. I've had my garage and home burglarized, and have evidence as to who did it, but police see such things now as not something to be concerned with, and if they investigated might tip the purps as to my reporting which could place me at personal risk. Perhaps if Grants Pass police are still concerned for dealing with crimes, using the van as a surveillance platform might be helpful. As I live in a higher income level area, Several apartment and condo owners (landlords) have installed additional lighting and surveillance video with large signs that declare Video Surveillance. As there's a heavy drug trafficking and sales in all of Salem, I've wondered if placing conspicuous surveillance cameras to surveil the street and property with a large sign that could record vehicle movement and license plates might be a deterrence.

I suppose things are pretty bad all over the country, but your neighborhood sounds like it's probably worse. Grants Pass is still a beautiful place to live, with beautiful scenery all around us, and many good people here, but not so much in this part of town, and we also have a large cartel presence and plenty of drugs. I also see many people walking by my shop talking to themselves and venting rage at their personal demons.

I remember people telling me, after living in Grants Pass for many years, they were moving far away. They thought things would go bad after the jails were built and the families of the criminals started moving to the area.

I'm so sorry for your situation Dave. I purchased marine equipment from a great company that once was in South San Francisco, and moved to Washington state across from Portland Oregon about twenty years ago. Most of the employees moved with them, but several said they didn't feel safe there either. A few of the women left the company for hopefully safer surroundings. The problem is spiritual in nature in my opinion. Please take care of yourself, and keep us informed as I think all of your followers are concerned. God Bless!

Thanks Gary, I always like to ponder the possible spiritual reasons that things happen as they do. I was a little triggered upon seeing my windshield this morning, but it's really a small detail in the scheme of things. I'm sure someone in Ukraine would love to trade their problems for mine. God bless.

Sorry to hear. I hear so much stuff like this happening in the USA. I don't get how you can have such problems yet your country seems to rather spend trillions on weapons and get involved all over the world in everybody else's back yard. Why not spend that money on improving the life of its own citizens?

That’s a question much of the people are asking. The elected positions keep getting staffed with people not concerned with the people that allegedly put them in the office they promised to use to better the people only to turn on them and thumb their nose at the people grumbling “if you don’t like me vote me out next election”. Until then it’s just more of the same and on repeat. Been so for years.

That used to be a major problem here in North Georgia. If your automobile broke down, ran out of gas, picked up a flat, etc. and was left on the side of the road it was sure to have the windows broken out in a few hours. Our local sheriff's office and state patrol resorted to parking forfeited vehicles and doing sting operations to catch the low-life PsOS. You'd think kids were the culprits, but it turned out to be adults in their 30' & 40's who were ne'rdowells. Off topic, but mailboxes used to get smashed every weekend. The USPS got behind us strengthening our boxes. According to the USPS once they leave a piece of mail in the box said box becomes their property. I built mine from 3/16 steel plate and made every effort to make it look like a $4 plastic box. Made the post from 3x3x¹/⁴ steel tube. It took a few hits and knocked out a rear window when the kids' aluminum bat bounced off it. When dear old dad filed a report and hired an attorney to sue for damages, the kid got slapped with a felony destruction charge. After that everything went away.

I used to think I would never have a gun in my home. Then when the " Toliet Paper " crisis happened during covid and I saw how crazy people were getting, I decided to get me one. I knew this was just the tip of the iceberg on human behavoir over the stupidest things. The laws have changed so much for the crimminals instead of the victoms, I am just glad I was born in the 50's. You can get in trouble and ruin your life for just looking at somebody wrong. Entitlment is out of control and no end in sight . There is no "safe" place to live but safer ones? - sure. In your case, you could move to a low population town like I have and be pretty much ok for awhile but since your a business, you need it to be in an area of descent amount of people I guess. I am so glad to be retired now. Sit on my front porch and yell at kids to get off my grass ! lol Nah, very peaceful here, for now anyway.

Yea I think you're right, and I don't blame you for buying a gun as our world is going insane. My preferred weapon is pepper spray when possible. I know it may not work on someone who is high on drugs, but even if you're legally justified in shooting someone, you're likely to sit in jail for a while, and the thought of taking someones life when I had other options would undoubtedly haunt me.
