Hey Kevin, thanks for watching! Perhaps we should have been clearer there, as for us in the UK the fuel prices over in North America seem very cheap compared to what we're used to paying over here. Even Vancouver seemed cheap for us, although we do concede that if you're coming from other parts of the continent it may seem more expensive.
@mahamousa2223

I can totally understand! Most Canadians tell me Vancouver is very expensive, I think this is something relative, because to me, it is not "as expensive" as I am coming from a country with a higher cost of living!

I've been living in Vancouver for over 11 years and I can't state enough how little of this wonderful city is shown in this video. Even now, many times I feel like a tourist by discovering new places and things to do on a weekly basis. The guide is on point for the things described with one exception: there is no such thing as "very...very cold winters" in Vancouver unless you're visiting from Central Africa.
@lanceschmidt3047
6 жыл бұрын
I live in Vancouver and enjoyed this video. Just a comment about the weather. I'm not sure who your target audience is; but in terms of North American and more specifically Canadian weather, Vancouver has a mild climate. Summer is relatively short with an average temp of 18C with some days getting into the mid 20's. The winter average is 4C to 7C often with grey skies and mist or rain. There is lots of snow in the local mountains just a short drive from the city, but in downtown Vancouver we see snow only once or twice a year, and when it does snow it usually doesn't stick around for more than couple of days. I don't think that really qualifies our weather as long, hot summers and cold, snowy winters. In my opinion, spring is the best time to visit Vancouver. There can be rainy periods, but everything is emerald green and the city is bursting with cherry blossoms and spring flowers. There are also few tourists, so it's very easy to get around and do things.

Exactly! Expect RAIN, RAIN, and more RAIN from October to May. Bring clothes to layer, a waterproof jacket, rain-proof shoes or boots, and an umbrella. Hiking in the fall is not usually the best season, as it is often quite rainy and muddy, but September is usually a sunny month. For the best weather, come in July ;-) We do get some snow in the winters, but it doesn't hang around too long, and it could happen any time between December and February. People here are also very bad at driving in the snow, so avoid driving on snow days, if possible.
@zachclaxton7371

Vancouver doesn't have very cold winters. The temperature rarely drops into the negatives. The lowest it will get is about -3 to -5˚c on a really cold day in the absolute dead of winter. But it does rain A LOT so bring an umbrella.

PRO TIP: If you don't want to pay for Capilano, go to Lynn Canyon park. Its just like Capilano and you are more able to walk around the forest and you can go the water. To enter the park you must go across a smaller suspension bridge. Also the Toonie and Loonie aren't nicknames, it's the official names.

even if your not a skier, i most definitely recommend grouse mountain, especially at night. Night skiing(or day) is fantastic, because it looks like your skiing over top of the city, even if it isn't as large as cypress, sun peaks, and whistler. You can go skating outdoors on a frozen pond, go to one of the 3 restaurants, go sledding, or just chill out. Its so fun and the environment is so pleasant.

Great video! Love the trash panda mention, they need some cred now and then. Downtown Vancouver I would not recommend driving in though, parking is pretty bad and it’s not hard to get around on foot or by bicycle. We have a bike share called mobi that has pick up and drop off stations every 3 blocks or so, and it’s pretty cheap for short rides. Additionally there are tons of bike rental shops that can rent you a bike for a few hours, a day, or even a few days. I would definitely recommend that over driving, especially in the summer months. Also we don’t have 4 seasons, we really only have 2. Warm and sunny-ish from May-September, and wet, grey and depressing from October-April with occasional excitement when the trees blow over and knock out power for a few days in November. Oh and if you’re lucky you’ll see 27 snowflakes fall and the entire city will grind to a halt, that’s always fun 🙃

Great video! I'm a city native that's also lived in LA, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, and Japan, however something always draws me back home. A couple things to mention: as I know the fuel prices around the world vary heavily, our are outrageous if you look at the history of our gas prices. If you think Sushi at Granville Island market is "the best [you've] had outside of Japan", you should to try to go Robson street and have your mind blown. Last one, Vancouver does not actually have "traditional" seasons, we are a tempered rain forrest so our summers are quite short and our winters are not very cold. Otherwise great video that showcases the most beautiful city in the world :) Thanks guys

Here are some things I recommend : A trip to Burnaby mountain to enjoy the view. Queen Elizabeth park. A walk in China town. Visit Granville Island . Visit UBC university grounds and walk in the tall tree suspension bridge..Travel the north Vancouver Sea to the Sky highway and visit Whistler mountain area. Take the ferry trip from down town Vancouver to the North Shore and relax and enjoy the view of Vancouver. Go to the top of Grouse mountain for an exciting time. Take a harbour cruise. Visit Vancouver Island by ferry from Tsawwassen ferry to Victoria then drive up to Tofino for whale watching then ferry back from Nanaimo to Squamish. A most walking visit is Gas Town and certainly Capilano suspension bridge in North Vancouver.

7:09, he's wrong there. Vancouver is warmer and cooler than other Canadian cities during winter and summer respectively. Expect mid to high 20 Celsius during summer (30 C+ and locals call it a heatwave), and around -3 C to 5 C during winter. For the winter, it is a "windy" cold, so you will feel it. We also rain a lot, so make sure you pack accordingly. Finally, bring money; Vancouver is not cheap.

Would just like to make a statement as a person who works in the service industry and has for a long time, in Canada 10% generally will barley cover a servers tip out (which is the percentage of our tips that we have to share with the kitchen staff, managers and bartenders) therefore, they may only receive 2-3% of that 10%. For great service 20-25% is standard, for mediocre service 15% and for awful service 10% or less is usually the norm. When visiting a bar or restaurant anywhere in Canada just keep in mind as servers we tip out no matter what and if your tip doesn’t cover our tip out we then have to pay out of our pocket to cover it. I know many people don’t know about or understand this so it’s just nice to get the word out! :)

Holiday Extras Travel Guides Wow cool It's pressure to hear that. Vancouver downtown is so good, nice environment and good traffic, kind people, besides Stanly park is very near, beautiful sea and be able to enjoy the Aquarium. Furthermore, famous Robson st. in downtown for young. Eventhough, that is great place i recommend you might also trying to visit, Metrotown in Burnaby it takes about 30 min. by Skytrain from downtown. There are so many spectacles and attractions, you could find things are around you might look 1 or several days to all around. Meantime, I'm speaking too much, it's pressure to having a chatting with you, i appreciate you for beautiful angles and i hope you've got always happy and having a wonderful travel, experiences and beautiful human being. Transportation. I’m traveling with my 9 year old and we plan on staying in the Richmond area and a small trip to Steveston. What’s the least expensive and safest way to tour. Thank you

Hi Lailani, it sounds like the bus might be a good bet if you're staying in Richmond and want to get to Steveston. There's some good info here - vancouver.ca/streets-transportation/visitors-guide-to-public-transit.aspx. Or of course you could hire a car with us and get around the city nice and easily :) - www.holidayextras.co.uk/car-hire.html

I highly recommend bicycling around Richmond (outside of the really dense/skytrain area) and Steveston
@joellagemaat5386
6 жыл бұрын
If you are staying in Richmond along Cambie or No. 3 Road, the 410 bus goes right into Steveston and comes every 10 minutes or so throughout the day. The fare is inexpensive at $2.75 and takes around 35 minutes. If you’re staying outside of that area, buses run less frequently, but can still get you there easily. Public transit is safe and widely used across the region, and Richmond is one of the safest areas in metro Vancouver. Cycling is also a good way to get around Richmond as it is very flat and there is decent cycling infrastructure. Avoid riding No. 3 Road anywhere north of Granville avenue though, as the bike lanes are narrow and the road is very busy with lots of driveways and other hazards. In general, you can ride around Richmond easily while avoiding most busy streets. Also I would recommend using Google Maps, Google Maps cycling directions are pretty accurate, and Translink (metro Vancouver’s transit company) is partnered with Google Maps so all you have to do is input your destination and select transit as the mode and google will tell you the rest of the way, even showing if the bus is delayed.

Definitely take the bus or a taxi. Drivers in Richmond are often not very aware of their surroundings, so I would not ride a bike, or drive if it was my first time in the city. Although, it depends on what kind of traffic you are used to driving in. A lot of people think Vancouver/lower mainland drivers are extremely aggressive. If you are from a big city, you will be fine, if you are from a smaller town, you might find it stressful to drive here.

With all due respect, one would tip 10-15 percent for average service. 15-18 percent for good or amazing service. If the service you receive is good, which more often than not it will be, please respect that the cost of living in Vancouver is quite high. Servers make a very small wage hourly and rely heavily on tips.

Yes, for reasons not made clear, the restaurant industry has contrived to hoodwink the consumer into subsidizing the wages of servers by direct "voluntary" payment. I may tip but not if the server is just "phoning it in". Servers are not forced to do that work. They are not victims of selfish customers. Some restaurants in Vancouver pay wait staff a living wage and forbid tipping.

Keep in mind that it rains quite often from October-April and we actually don't have those traditional extreme cold "Canadian" winters- only snows around 2 times in the winter and it doesn't stick around for long! My advice would be to come in the summer (early summer especially as forrest fires in the province can get very bad a bring a lot of smoke into the city)! If you don't mind the rain, then any time of year in Vancouver is awesome!

Awesome vid! Just to point out though that 10% tip is quite low for Vancouver. The machines most of the time would give you 15, 18 or 20% option. Yeah... If you like to go out a lot, Vancouver can be quite expensive

There are only 2 capsule hotels in Canada, one in Whistler and one is in Richmond. The pod hotels are good options for budget travelling. I stayed at Panda Pod Hotel in June and it costed me around $70 for the stay. I was quite happy

1. The Skytrain is 4.10 for 2 different zones, and 5.60 for three different zones. Travelling within each zone and during weekends and evenings is 2.85. Get a compass card to save more money on the trip. 2. Fuel is not cheap. 3. We don't have long or cold winters. The coldest it will get is around -5 and we get two weeks of snow a year.
