I wanted a non-arbitrary way of determining the distance between vanishing points. Now I know: use the cone of vision. I also wanted to replicate the field of view of specific camera lenses. I made a guide you can download: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
0:00 Intro
1:00 Make the cone of vision
1:36 Focal length and lenses
1:58 Demo
2:24 Moving the horizon line
3:34 Three point perspective: Find the vertical vanish point (and the right and left VPs)
This is a bake down of info from multiple sources and experiments. There are a lot of different terms and methods out there. I'm mostly using Erik Olson's terminology. If you want to know WAY more, check out his perspective course on New Masters Academy. Note: for camera lenses, he has different numbers than I do.
