Varan | Varn | Jeera Coconut Konkani Dal Recipe | Varna
Ingredients:
• 1 Cup Cooked Moong Dal.
• ½ Cup Freshly Grated Coconut.
• ½ Tsp Turmeric Powder/ Haldi.
• 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeera.
• Small piece of Tamarind.
• 8 to 10 Curry Leaves / Kadipatta.
• ½ Tsp Asafoetida / Hing.
• 2 to 3 slit Green Chillies.
• 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds / Rai.
• 1 Tbsp Coriander Seeds / Dhaniya Seeds.
• Salt to Taste.
• Some Chopped Coriander leaves / Dhaniya Patta.
• 3 to 4 Tsp Oil.
Method -
• In a mixer jar add grated Coconut, Coriander seeds, Turmeric powder, Cumin seeds, Tamarind piece, and Water. Make a fine paste and keep aside.
• Heat Oil in a pan.
• Add Mustard seeds. Let it pop up.
• Add Green chillies.
• Add Curry leaves.
• Add some Asafoetida / hing.
• Mix well the tadka.
• Now add the cooked Moong dal.
• Mix well.
• Now add the Coconut paste.
• Add little Water.
• Add Salt to taste.
• Mix well.
• Add some water to adjust the consistency of the Varan / Varna.
• Add some fresh Coriander leaves.
• Cover the lid and bring the Varan / Varna to a boil on low flame.
• Open the lid and mix well once more.
• Boil the Varan / Varna for 5 to 6 minutes on low flame.
• Varna is ready to be served with rice.
