Palming the magazine catch was standard practice. You were supposed to grasp the magazine as it comes away but in an emergency you wouldn't bother.

This gun was invented in Czechoslovakia by Václav Holek as ZB (zbrojovka Brno) vz. 26. BREN means BR (Brno), EN (Enfield). I'm so proud to be Czech 😌

The "Bren" light machine gun is a British version of the Czechoslovakia ( light machine gun Zb30 ""Brno"") with slight Alterations and conversion to fire the British '303' inch cartridge hence the combined name "Brno" / "Enfield" known as the. British BREN gun

There are documented photos of German Fallschirmjagers using captured Bren guns, but it was not issued to German soldiers en masse.

The fact is not single country army defected the Germans . USA UK France Indians Australians . ... were inferior soldiers agains the Nazis .... The weapons were. Some of the best .
