Unlike xylem (which is composed primarily of dead cells), the phloem is composed of still-living cells that transport sap. The sap is a water-based solution, but rich in sugars made by photosynthesis. These sugars are transported to non-photosynthetic parts of the plant, such as the roots, or into storage structures, such as tubers or bulbs

Nick Spears 1. Describe how water travels from the to cell to the leaf. Map the way. Water is transported into the roots and enters the xylem. Cohesion and Adhesion cause the water to move through the xylem. It then goes from the xylem in to the mesophyll cells and evaporates through the stomata. 2. How is ground tissue different in the root/stem the the leaf? The ground tissues does not has chloroplast cells/mesophyll cells and does not preform photosynthesis. 3. Describe how the stomata opens and closes. The stomata open due to the guard cells expanding and contracting. The cells expand because of water/turgur pressure. When more pressure is present the cells expand and when there is less pressure they contract and let the stomata open.

2 CORRECTIONS: 1. the big one- plants have 2 organs! the shoot and roots. leaves, flowers, tubers, and others are modified stems (Yes even the flower, I've spoken to my professor with a PHD in Plant biology and my professor with a PHD in Horticulture) roots have meristems as well as shoot meristems; known by most as the Shoot Apical Meristem (SAM) and Root Apical Meristem (RAM). I'm from a botany class, so maybe I'm biased, but if we're gonna teach the kids all the complex organ systems of animals then we better teach them the 2 simple organs of plants. other than that, good work, and never stop making mistakes and improving. B- for getting some stuff right though.
