Always nice to watch old school anything; vasily and another day at the office.
He wasn't old school though... he discarded coaches as he felt coaches grow old and they bring old techniques!!

I was five years old during the 1976 Olympics. I knew nothing about weightlifting. But, I remember watching Alekseyev. I also remember my parents, aunts and uncles talking about that big Russian weightlifter. This guy was a worldwide star in his day. I would say he was almost a household name, but I am not sure everyone knew his name. But just about everyone knew who he was. I am not a big weightlifting watcher, but in my life, I have yet to see any Olympic Weightlifter as well known as Vasily Alekseyev. I remember looking up a list of the top ten greatest weightlifters of all time and he wasn't on it. I couldn't believe it. I checked and it shows he had 80 world records in his career. They said his all time record lifts would be higher, but he would intentionally barely break his own records due to the extra pay he received from the Soviet Union for breaking a record. Therefore he would continuously break his own records to receive extra pay. Like I said, I am not an expert on Olympic Weighlifting, but there was never any bigger, in my opinion, than Vasily Alekseyev.

In Montreal 1976 at the olympic games, Alekseyev made a 275 pound pull-up in one shot. He is the greatest...

Inspired me as a Young Man For the Love of Olympic weightlifting he was truly the world's strongest man in the world strongest man competition is not about absolute strength as a lot of you don't running with weights and repetitions is not absolute power not to say that they're not strong but put them up against Alexia I think they would fell short
