I'm all about getting my own place first. I think it's one of the important things you can do for yourself. It's peaceful and quiet. You learn responsibility and accountability. You learn what you like and don't like. You just see things differently and might even reveal your creative side. That's just me. As for living with my partner before marriage, I think that could never be me. My mom would kill me at this point.

I agree with Rego on wanting her own space first. I personally want to move into my own space before marriage so i get familiar with certain things like rent, wifi, water, groza, electricity and so force. Get the opportunity to enjoy coming home when i want. Make some mistakes that will only affect me. Basically to learn how to account for myself. Only then can i get married coz now i have built somewhat of an understanding of myself and had the moment of release from living under someone elses roof. Now vat n sitting or moving in when you get married needs flexible minded people regardless. It needs you to be willingly teachable. It takes too committed people to figure it out. Some people have vat n sat and got married, some didnt marry. Some went straight to marriage successfully, others divorce. It has no fomula really. It really just needs willing people, goals and effort. To each other own really. Howevee, i still stand upon having my own place before i get married. I cant from one household to another where i need to consider other peoples feelings oko😂. I want to be selfish and go to bed with a cupcake and tea💀.

I definitely think its paramount to live alone before marriage so you can discover more of yourself, as Rego said. On the other hand, i agree with Dise on living at home then going straight to marriage esp for financial reasons for me. Living alone obviously means absolute financial independence and I believe this can wait. Living at home means you can save all of that rent and alles money and invest it into your future or something worthwhile. Nna ga ke kwane le gontsha chelete hey, so yah. As for vat n sit, I was for it a few years back but now I believe its better to wait for marriage because it makes sense. Otherwise you get comfortable and never marry, you guys said it, and theres plenty of proof out there. My partner does want us to move in together before marriage bc he really isn't a traditional or religious guy and he doesnt see the point of waiting bc as Dise said, marriage is really just a ring once you guys live together. So ene he prefers we live together then work our way towards officialising our union, together. For him the official marriage is just about pleasing the parents and getting passports into my room at home and for me, his room at his home. according to him, true marriage happens in our hearts and him and I are already married.😅 I'm not going to do it because me I'm a traditional girl and I want to live with him only after marriage, until then, I'll be at home enjoying the spoils of being an adult-child.

Thank you so much for this topic, I do agree with Dise when he says that there’s a thrill in discovering new habits together and personally on my side that’s one of the key aspects I look forward to when I do move in with my husband (God willingly). Yes our generation we do go astray in terms of doing sleepovers but we decided it’s only for 2 nights max it could never be more then that. Then on our way to dropping me off back home we then speak about how this isn’t nice that I have to leave and go back home etc etc. However now we know the goal, we know what we’re working towards, so do I believe in vat n sit? Theoretically I understand why people do it but personally I wouldn’t hence we’re waiting

Funny enough I agree with both Rego and Dise on the terms of the individual's situation. For some living with parents helps them save on rental costs and all the bills that come with staying alone. Wise ones will use that opportunity to save and invest in a large chunk of their income. For others living with their parents just isn't practical. They live too far from work, school or an environmental that produces opportunities. Therefore staying alone then becomes a need and not a luxury. But moving in together before marriage is definitely not on for me.

Im with Dise on everything you talked about A good husband will lead you to the path of righteousness and not of sin So if someone wants to move in before marriage, what's their motive really? Moving in together before marriage is definitely not a good idea. 1.You will obviously have sex and 2, the guy will not be motivated to pay lobola because he is getting all the benefits for mahala. Quick question, does lobola count as being married or must you sign and say your vows first? Because the court recognizes lobola as a marriage, but the church doesn't.

According to the south African constitution they is a law that consider customary marriage as valid hence why Lerato Sengadi the "girlfriend" to the HHP was regarded as the wife by the high court of South Africa. I have also watched another video on youtube were a lawyer was also saying the same however they has to be proof of lobola being paid even if it's half, a celebration of some sort.

Lobola is indeed marriage, getting the papers signed is being legally married. You get to choose the type (community of property, prenuptial agreement etc) people sign mainly for future reasons of property deeds and also it saves when the negatives happen, e..g the case of divorce, death etc. Lobola was being done before the church was introduced to us by colonialism. So our ancestors were definitely getting married isn't 😊? Even in the bible, one was considered married when the groom paid a bride price to the brides father. Remember the church doctrines are made by people according to their own revelation of the bible. One of the 10 commandments says, honor your mother and father. So as long as you have done things culturally you have indeed honored them in the right way and God will recognize it. Thats my thinking.
