@@michaelmorrow607 It's a bit of a gray area, but, for the most part, no. It should be entirely legal to do that. Typically, Bethesda gets pissy about actual assets being used in games where they are not intended to be used. For example, using the voice lines from Fallout 3 in a fan-made mod that recreates Fallout 3 in Fallout 4 would be grounds for legal action. However, if someone recreates Fallout 3 using custom textures, models, and voice lines, it's fine. Also, there's plenty of cut content mods that have been created for all sorts of Bethesda titles and, so far, none of them have been met with any sort of legal action. If you want a good example of this, check out the Combat Zone Restored mod for Fallout 4, which uses voice lines and assets that were cut from the game but were still in the game files. So, if the assets were intended to be used in Fallout 4 and all of the missing assets (i.e. scripts, textures, models, voice lines, etc) are made by a mod author, that should be fine. At that point, it's not stealing. Sorry for the long comment. Kinda warranted a small essay though. Hope it helps.

This quest and all the ocean content being cut is sort of a perfect example of what is wrong at Bethesda. Think about how much relatively boring shit they left in Fallout 4 that took as much or more effort than this would have. And yet they chose that over this, and didn't even bother to fix the glaring issue of the massive parts of the map that are just empty ocean after cutting all of the ocean content. This is true of all Bethesda games, but Fallout 4 is especially such a sad case of lost potential. It had all the factors to be amazing, to outdo every other entry, and they fumbled it. What’s interesting is that IRL, Massachusetts was historically where the US government was dumping unwanted artillery shells and even chemical weapons, from the end of WW1 until the 1970s. Another way that Bethesda could have utilized the huge expanse of ocean that dominates like half of the map in Fallout 4, would have been to reference this obscure bit of history. Maybe have some scavengers living in some Water World-ass floating city and diving down to recover bits and bobs of dumped munitions. Maybe have a quest around a legendary stockpile of early-model Mini-Nukes that gives the player the option to make a lot of caps with the consequence of more Fat Man nukes appearing in the wastes (while the cost of Mini-Nukes in the Commonwealth lowers as supplies increase), or scuttle the salvage operation/destroy the stockpile to prevent this disastrous outcome. I just came up with that off the top of my head.

Real glad Bethesda cut a power armor set, a unique weapon and it's only underground vault ever, in one of its most ambitious quests. Sound logic

Imagine having a quest involving an underwater vault... tied with project purity, something that would try and help clean up the ocean's murkiness at the end, also add in an ambassador from the Republic of Dave :D

There's an alternate timeline where, instead of embezzling fallout 4's support budget to make a half baked, kit-bashed live service grift to milk more money from fans while building a sub-par space game nobody wanted or asked for, Bethesda instead gave fallout 4 the support it desperately needed and delivered 2 more large expansions, one of which could've been this. I will forever maintain that had fallout for received a total of 4 or 5 large expansions like fallout 3 and new Vegas did, it would've been remembered and cherished way more positively today.

This would have been probably the best quest series in the game. It's a shame that it was cut. As other comments say, it's sad that the ocean is basically untouched.

Since you brought up mass effect I could see this overseer Octopus interacting with the player like Sovereign with shepherd saying lines similar to "I am beyond your comperinchion" the squad would probably try to convince the player to let them out it would have been interesting to see the consequences of ever choice.

It would have been interesting for them to try and reimplement this idea in the Far Harbor DLC. Since it added a whole bunch of aquatic themed creatures and items, this Vault would have felt right at home.

I didn't know about this cut content this is cool! I imagined an underwater vault as a giant spider-droid like mech with a vault situated as the body, and the legs acting as tunnels to enter and exit. Perhaps as a command center for one of the factions, or even Vault Tec.

When I first heard the ocean content got scrapped: Yeah I didn't like walking around in power armor and I couldn't ever find the far harbor underwater suit, so I'm glad it's cut, didn't want a part of the map restricted to the water perk. Now: oh they cut a LOT

I always suspected there was something planned for the water in FO4, just because the Aqua perk was just so overpowered for what it did, was available fairly early on, and didn't seem to have any discernable reason to be there other than for speedrunners to exploit. That, and the mirelurk egg omelettes... Why would you need them?! Even the bit in dunwich borers doesn't need them, and the submarine quest certainly doesn't, so why include them? Ah well.
@TriangleCity
Жыл бұрын
That perk is a strange inclusion considering how little reason there is to explore underwater, probably a remnant of this quest, as well as a leftover of expanded underwater exploration in the wasteland. There are some points of interest UW, but they're mostly just sunken ships without loot or mysterious pipes that have no discernable purpose. Definite missed opportunity
@peterclarke7240
Жыл бұрын
@@TriangleCity It's also a very game-breaking perk- you can not only skip big chunks of the map once you get to Grey Garden or Mystic Pines, simply because then you can swim everywhere, but if you know where to look you can find a lot of loot and early game guns without ever putting yourself in any real danger. Seems like it was included very much as a necessity to be able to reach the underwater areas, but then got left in when those bits were cut.

This is the one cut content I really miss in the game. Just like GTA 5, the massive underwater world is such a ripe place for mysteries and wonder, but so strangely unused. It would be so cool to surface in your escape pod, far from shore, having to swim through dark waters now infested with strange underwater creatures now released from the facility. Effectively enriching the world with new life. Hmmm my mind get so many new ideas.

@@TriangleCity I dont know much about game development but that is heavily disheartening. My fiance and soon to be husband gets weirded out when i mention cut content and easter eggs (where both big nerds) and he put time in college for game development and dropped out. He treats it as "Oh well, it was probably inefficient or useless data anyway, or it is what it is". Don't blame him but have reminded him and ever since he seems to he more understanding. The public sees stuff like this and can't help but veiw in fear or wonder on what this sorta stuff is like and it's a truly beautiful art form. Seeing left over ideas even in Fallout or World of warcraft or any other games always makes the mind wonder what was happening through these people's heads to come to such interesting ideas and thought processes but as my fiancé says it is what it is. I'm currently 22 and im thinking about relearning highschool mathematics, learning code, learning some 3d modeling, practice writing and hopefully one day create something as awesome as these games devs do.

I wonder what the experiment would have been if it was one like that: maybe how the human body adapts to pressure under the sea for a long time, or something like vault tec purposely making sure the vault has many leaks so people are always paranoid about new leaks appearing and getting flooded out, or maybe something like Bioshock, where science and art have no limit and it is full of the "best" and "smartest" like vault 76, but they are all cruel and out for themselves, and the more money you have the higher up you are in the vault, with the overseer being the richest until they are overthrown by a new richest person, but like Rapture, it goes too far and instead of plasmids it's cybernetic implants that cause people to go insane, so it's like a Fallout twist,
