I had an estate version of this car in the mid seventies. Fantastic drive and plenty of torque. Went all over the country in it and never let me down once.

This what my Grandfather 1974 vauxhall vx4/90 looked like, the 4 headlights at the front, the black vinyl roof the individual rear seats his was beige inside with wood effect dash 4 speed plus overdrive button on top of gear stick. I loved that car. Oh and it was red as well. With black vinyl roof. Now my dad had 1976 metall8c green beige and tartan interior it was great but it was lost when in for service the garage had a fire.

My dad had the earlier version and it was very fast. A great straight 6 engine and plenty of room for the family. A good car if you can find one but like all the best they rotted away as they went down the road. 👍🏴

A little snippet of history. This is a.lovely example of a forgotten dinosaur. The VX series, whatever the name on the badge, were somehow the last, dying breath of the old F series Victors. But the nostalgia is palpable. Nice car.

I had the FE Victor 1800 with same body shell. Huge amount of room inside. Nice to drive but mine gave some trouble too, i.e. problems with the clutch, 2x water-pump, distributor oil seal and rust (lots of it, I lived by the sea). Once, whilst using the jack, the sill just started to crumble away... very few FE's left now. I did like that car though.

22/01 23, Remember the Vauxhall Plant had a Showroom in Kimpton Road Luton. Used to wonder in there from time to time and ogle latest models & colours. Remember too seeing a swish 2 Door 1.6 HB Viva in Green there with contrasting Vynal roof. If you watched 'Kojak' Saturday evenings on TV you could get a glimpse of what UK produced next generation GM & Fords were likely to look like. Recall seeing the Vee F bumpers before appearing on UK Vauxhalls. Knew folk who worked at Vauxhall when they had a large order from BT for yellow coloured Busby

Typical 70's styling cues such as Rostyle Wheels with Chrome or Stainless Trims, Vinyl Roof and Sideline Trims. I owned a 1972 VX4/90. I'm sure this model was designated with the code name FE and named the Transcontinental. My car was a 2.3L with Manual and Overdrive. I was 18 yrs old at the time and kept it for 3 years selling it to a mate of mine who kept it for around 8 years. Nice car in their time.

Interesting Vauxhall,we didn't see these in Australia. Some similar design themes that Holden here were making. We had HQ Holden (full size )&LJ (Torana) mid size . Would like to see motor & interior. I think the English motors & all round specifications were better than what we had here. We didn't get fuel injection until mid 1980's & IRS as option until early 1990's. Guess we made up for it with powerful V8 models, albeit with hopeless economy running carburettor induction. Thanks for the post:))

I had an L reg in honey mist gold, brill car a bit thirsty and at 70 MPH you could hear the clock ticking away it was so quiet inside , AND they dont look out of date today, For better milage on start up i enlarges the bleed air hole near the carb, it did help, the reason i found this was the bi metal control spring had seized up so the flapper valve stayed closed this burnt a hole through into the inlet manifold, the car was ok above 2000rpm but below that she wouldnt run, In the end S and k in Luton found the problem after i had taken the head off , and i got to do the mod on that bleed hole. I should say that flapper valve was controlled by the spring and as the engine warmed up would be backed off by the bimetal spring, taking hot exhaust gases away from the inlet manifold, and routing them to the exhaust system that was the only problem i had but to fix it then in 1976 cost a packet , i think in the region of £120.

Oddball design when the rear windows would only open half way due to the wheel arch. Shame they rusted so fast that hardly any are left now.
