Vauxhall motors were looking for a name starting with V for the upmarket Victor in 1968, and it was the late motor racing commentator Murray Walker who came up with the name Ventora. Ventura was his initial name for the car but there was a GM car in America with that name, so this car was named Ventora.

Maybe Vauxhall and Opel had better names than Ford in the seventies. I like the Magnum and Manta names and the Victor and Viva Firenza. But I suppose it's just down to personal preference!

The FE series is one of my favourite 1970s cars. Just such a lovely shape with nice styling features. I'd prefer to own one of these Ventoras or Victors over a Ford Granada, despite not being as good. My dad really liked Vauxhalls. He owned a PA Cresta in the 1960s I think. However, he shied away from these early to mid 1970s models as they had a poor reputation for rust resistance. "Impedimenta". Never heard of that word before. I'd really like to try and use that in a conversation in the next few days. 😅

My father had one of these as a company car from 73 to 75, which I got to drive occasionally. I loved it! His previous company cars were the earlier model Ventora and two VX4/90s prior to that. His replacement in 75 was a Cortina Mk III 2000E, which I was not keen on at all. I still remember the registration numbers of all of them!

I was looking forward to this one. I have only seen a few of these on the road in my life and always thought it was a nice design and considered buying one in the late 80's that had been de-bumpered, fitted with American drag racing wheels , a Cherry Bomb exhaust and had the nose down , tail up stance that made it look quite aggressive. Oh to be young 😊

That rear end appears exceptionally modern and good-looking - as a kid, it surely was my favourite! Generally, the car's lines and proportions really are delicious - coupled with an equally modern and appealing dashboard layout. This is English quality at its best!

the dashboard is a bit of a let down in comparison with this cool late 60s body style

They later hugely improved the dash for the '76-'78 VX Series, but in '77 Ford brought out the new Granada which unfortunately made the lovely VX Series cars look slightly outdated.
