It’s actually a literal documentary at some points, they interviewed actual political figures to make the show realistic and ended up picking up some stories from them, which made it into the show. The whole episode where the speech to the union gets deleted was based off numerous actual situations where that happened

This is brilliant. The time/career scene always gets me because the axes are switched. I don't know if that was done on purpose to show the incompetency of the staff or if it missed in production.

@@Plaspos I'm not seeing much Palin influence, to be honest. Palin's appeal for the GOP electorate was that she was folksy and dim in a likeable salt-of-the-earth kind of way (not my opinion ofc, but clearly the image the party aimed to project). Selina's pretty much the polar opposite of that.

@@FranzKafkaRockOpera the first two seasons of veep mainly focused on her incompetence in running an office rather than her corruption and complete lack of morals which developed later in the show. Given veep first came out in 2009, there were many comparisons between her and a fictional Palin vice presidency because of palin’s seeming lack of preparation for being VP. In fact you can find interviews of JLD from the early seasons denying that the show was parodying her because so many people thought so (but of course they also denied it was a parody of Hillary or Trump later)
