Marc Okubo is a genius. He does things with the guitar traditional guitarists would never fathom attempting. Then Sam Applebaum is probably the only drummer in the world that can actually consistently tour playing these insane drum lines. Danny Hauser is is absolutely nuts on bass and represents DC and the mid atlanticc. RIP Brandon Butler. You will never be forgotten and your voice will always have its place in VoM. Best band of my generation and by far my favorite band.

Last time I hung out with them was last year :/).

your right! I got to hang out with marc on VoM's tour bus and they are all intro anime and are pretty much hardcore gamers. Marc makes a lot of techno/trance music on the side, he showed me some tracks on his laptop, which are, needless to say, amazing. he needs to post some!

@atomicenergy97

In fact it's not the tone but the way he palm mutes; he's actually doing it higher on the strings so it results in a more percussive sound. I also think it doesn't suit this particular part of the song but whatever lol

@squiresuzuki
9 жыл бұрын
Jared Bobier Actually no, his tuning is G#-B-F#-B-E-G#-C#, meaning his 7th string actually does go lower than a 5 string. You can see this around 2:56 and play half speed, he's playing the same line as the guitar (whose lowest string is B), but on his second lowest string (B as well). In fact his tuning is identical to Marc, except for that lower string. I have come across a number of 7 strings tuned as an alternative standard F# - B - E - A - D - G - C, instead of the more typical high F as you mentioned.

I don't know if there's any good way to mix a one guitar live metal band for stereo mixes lol, especially when there's the 2nd guitar backtrack only going like 15% of the time. That short stereo reverb every time the guitar mutes is killing me though, last thing you want for this genre

Wait I don't understand that, I mean the guy has MORE strings that the the guitarist, what could he possibly be doing that a bass player would do that is complimentary to what marc is playing
@TyronTention

Because the bass is usually in a lower register, he uses the top strings to double up on arpeggios. He does a lot of tapping and he demonstrates some of this on his instagram.

@jp2503
10 жыл бұрын
Well this isn't their production this is the sound tree studio and the guitars are really washed out and at some parts the bass seems really pushed but it just sounds really flat and fuzzy. Just the volume balance between the vocals drums and guitars mostly are kind of bad. Nothing so bad that it kills it and their normal production is fine with me.
