Since I have been recently toying with the idea of running dedicated base up burn 175W M57 probe start metal halide lamps in my American Electric R175M 175W H39 mercury vapor yardblaster security light with the added European Philips SI51 ignitor, I decided to get myself this Venture Lighting MS175W/C/BU/3K 175W M57 probe start metal halide lamp for this fixture. Even though the lamp looks yellowish on camera at full brightness, it produces a very beautiful pinkish white light that reminds me of childhood memories of stores lit by metal halide lighting since I recall seeing some 3200K coated probe start metal halide lamps being used in some high bay fixtures long before the days of LED lighting. The thing that I find really strange is that I am using a probe start metal halide lamp normally used in stores in a run of the mill North American 175W H39 mercury vapor yardblaster security light that is often used for outdoor residential lighting applications in addition to the lamp running off of a low power factor HX autotransformer ballast instead of the typical CWA ballast that these lamps are normally designed to run on.
