Weird. I live in Ireland where we get very little sun, and when it's sunny it's not even that strong. However my traps have been doing well, surviving multiple frosts, they're going dormant and they had developed a red colouration, a sign of good light levels.

If you have to keep it in a bowl of water like that Id guess it would be a good idea to use the same kind of pot you use for African Violets. They submerge the bottom of the container pot into a second pot that holds water (like a double boiler).

You should actually feed them a large cricket per plant once a month, also adding some sand in your substrate mixed with the moss would be perfect. & rain water also does the trick :) ps. They dont eat as much during the winter. & you only need to water them once a week

Amazing leaves, with the jaws literally hanging in the air. I was given one recently and it came in a cermamic container with just a little hole at the bottom and a saucer type of thing (just 2cm deep) that goes under the container. I read that the proper way to water them is to just fill the saucer with a quantity of water that will be absorbed in max. 24hrs and then give it a little dry time afterwards. You water them a lot more - so do you think my way is wrong or is it okay too?

They can do ok in soil. Not the best. But trying to transplant them now may just kill the plant. I assume the plant is at least grown a little bit, it would be hard to get the roots out and into a different type of growing material. Probably best to leave them in the soil this time.

@MoonCat5656
9 жыл бұрын
Yo, Just here to tell you that, flowering, takes a lot of energy from the plant, which always almost kills it. :( Sorry. If you propagated your plant, then you might get seeds. If it hasn't blossomed then you'll have to wait for the seeds to form, but it will most likely die. For the best advice go to flytrapcare. com Great community and loads of helpful advice.

@@MoonCat5656 yeah flowering uses a hell of a lot of energy but, flowering is fine on a very healthy plant, as long as your plant has good coloration, and is not reaching for light or grown in a windowsill like i see many growers doing smh, they are NOT windowsill plants they can be grown with 2 options, either outdoors full sun, or under very very bright grow lights, i use full spectrum white led grow panels with red leds plus leds with 3500-5500k and 6500k leds that works well, i just added a regular typical fly trap to my collection 3 days ago, it is pushing out growth like mad with nice new colors, i don't put my plants through dormancy because i am a experienced grower and gave been growing for 14 years! lots of experience, but yes flowering is awful for indoor plants without traps, i usually cut the stalk off immediately or feed it a lot for my outdoor plants or they already catch enough, but my indoor plants don't go through dormancy because i know how to skip it properly, feed them with live insects, no insects with hard shells like pill bugs etc you can also use fish food or blood worms! with this advice you'll be good: bright bright light humidity doesn't matter at all i know friends who are on top of mountains and live in deserts and their plants grow great! sitting in a tray of ro water or distilled or rain water no windowsills period feed every week or two no fertilizer! cut the flower off immediately it drains tons of energy from the plant dormancy is an option

Natural sun light is best. Water quality is very important. Remove flower stalks to grow bigger traps. Respect dormancy. They take years to grow to any size from seed and need the seed to be stratified to germinate. Healthy plants will produce off shoots and these mature quickly. A sphagnum peat and washed river sand combo is a good choice of soil.

@lyricsyt3123
7 жыл бұрын
AshleighIsHere Yes cut the dead traps off, because they can mound and spread bacteria. A trap dying isn't always serious, it's very natural and it just means the trap has been used up. A new trap is always growing from the centre, and the outter traps die. Leave your trap alone, it catches things itself (my Venus flytrap almost always has all its traps closed with food and I never go near it!) you'll most likely kill your plant if you're force feeding it.

Actually a lot of the things that you said not to do are natural to them. They are natural to the rainforest and have water constantly(high humidity kept in by a dome) mine lived in a dome for years and flourish like you wouldn't believe. it really just depends on your plant and the quality and how good it was cared for as a Seedling. Also feeding them to often can actually kill them quite easily and fast. So be careful about.

Filtered water is not good and not recommended, distilled, rain and reverse osmosis water is the number one water to use.(rain water is usually the way to go). And feeding, the traps will catch 2 to 4 insects in its life time before it withers away and its replace with a new one every 1 to 4 months.
