This is one of these days I am happy to live in a country that doesn't have such a terrible justice system as the US! This case was a joke! It is easier for people to believe an entire hospital with their doctors, nurses and other staff actually decided to conspire against a family and torture a child than it is to believe her mother was sick and did that to her (which there were many things pointing at that but people refuse to look at it). Really sad....

And once again…. If Jon Hopkins believed that the ketamine coma was “outrageous and dangerous “ why did they not file a complaint with the AMA to investigate the DOCTOR, WHO ORDERED AND TREATED WITH THAT CARE PLAN ! Instead, they went after the parents who was doing what THEIR DAUGHTERS DOCTOR TOLD THEM TO DO . That’s what I never understood here in this case . Beata was following Mayas doctors treatment plan. Clearly, John Hopkins disagreed with that plan and that’s OK .. simply tell the parents that you do not agree with that care plan and tell them that they are discharging Maya and suggest they go back to Dr. Hanna. Instead, they punished the parents for simply following their daughters doctors orders.

@@IKINCI-p7g amounts are almost always vastly reduced in the appeals process. American American courts usually rule against average American cents Ronald Reagan was in office. As part of the project to bring back the vast wealth inequality of the gilded era, the Federalist society said about appointing extremely right-wing, pro-corporate and anti average people Judges. Since about 1984, in court cases, if it's an average person versus a corporation, something like 90% of the time the courts rule for the corporation. if it's an average person versus the government, the courts rule for the government. If it is a corporation versus the government, the courts rule for the corporation. So even when the jury does the right thing for an injured p 2:28 laintiff, all the right-wing judges in the appeals we're almost certainly lessen the benefit to the injured plaintiff. She was an abusive mother that left her children in the care of a father that has yet to move them out of that house or get them psychiatric care. Now they have the appeals process to look forward to. So they don't see any money, and mandatory reporting in Florida sees a sharp decline. Worst of both worlds.

@PennyxXxDreadful 100%. Those children could barely have had a worse mother, especially Kyle. The father almost as bad for putting them through this humiliation, with a lot worse to come via appeals. Hopefully plenty new evidence of poor, almost housebound maya out partying etc. The whole family will be tailed every time they leave the house, every dime they spend off the back of what they think they are going to receive. Mr Shapiro was very very respectful to them all, despite maya and her deadbeat dad lying multiple times under oath. I hope the gloves will be off now. What they couldn't present in court and much more evidence of them living with zero ucks about the abusive mother deleting herself. Imo the blessing for them all.

Happy for the family. Justice is served for them and especially their Mom. Shame on the Social Worker who was the one who pursued the family and look what happened. Her decision to touch & reports, paid a price for herself and the hospital.

I fervently hope medical practitioners (on every level) across the world take note (Yeah right). I have worked in health for over forty years and the thought of entering a hospital for care frankly terrifies me. I would rather die at home than be placed into the "care" of our hospital system.

Disgusting hospital management & staff. Horrific Florida DCF workers & sub-contractors, and a careless "shelter-in-place" judge. RIP Beada. Jack, Maya, Kyle and Team-Gregory are heroes. For exposing this horrendous non-civil kerfuffle causing behavior. That ran rapid inside this down-right scary hospital. Shame on Florida state officials for major lack of oversight. Their governor wants to be president, when he can't even run the Dept. of Children & Families. And, that's not political, I'm a republican, too! And, last but not least are the very disturbing trolling anti-Maya haters. Children are off-limits, period. You're too ignorant to ever be a shamed of yourselves. So, no hope there. Hopefully $288 million in liable damages will send a message thru out the country. Bottom line, the jury system still works in America, God Bless this family!

Kowalski family attorneys fell short in representing and advising them. If these things happened during Maya’s stay, then her attorney should have taken action then. They fell short in pleading for family in DCF court. Maya was accepted into the outpatient CRPS treatment hospital in Orlando - Their attorneys should have plea for hospital release to her Uncle custody and enter outpatient treatment. Take care of Maya should have been priority vs any diagnosis of mother, as JHACH tried to transfer her on day 2-3 prior to shelter order.

And the dad failed in advocating for Maya. He should have immediately went to Head Nurse and Administration, if he had concerns of his daughter’s care. Requested different social worker, more responsive nurses, etc. As a parent, I have had to do this & as a spouse for my partner. As many of my relatives and friends have done for their loved ones. There was evidence during trial, that Jack never issued a complaint or concern. Plus, they had family attorneys that could have advised them and took immediate action for him.

@@LMR-dt9tr Your response is to blame failure on the folks, who at the time, had the very least amount of power (the family) in the system!?. Going up against a hospital, the state of Florida's DCF and it's court system. Really! I appreciate your opinion, but, find it rather weak in its foundation. Thank You for sharing your thoughts.

JS, I support much of what your initial comments were. Well put! I’m just trying to give hope to other parents that they have the opportunity to get in front of things early, the outcome is better. Commenting from my own personal experience. Beata had a chance to authorize a transfer to what was best to take care of Maya into an outpatient CRPS treatment hospital in Orlando, prior to shelter order. Mother should have approved this, whether she disagreed with her own diagnosis, in order to put the care of Maya as the priority. Especially, since Dr Hanna sent Maya to JHACH because he could not do anymore for her and decided to end his ketamine treatments with her because he had max out the dosage and it was not helping Maya.

Yes Mr. Shapiro JHACH will suffer some from these punitive damage payouts, but they will think twice (hopefully) before they do this again to another family.
