Dallas needs to take care of this lake. Imagine how beautiful it would be if it was clean and blue?

It never was blue....it's a mud bottom lake like lavon and Ray Hubbard.....lake texoma is dark blue n alot of places because the bottom is sand & it's 100' deep n spots

@@dco956 true even other lakes like lake Texoma and Tawakoni far from Dallas aren’t crystal clear. Although if shallow you can say they are but that’s true of anything else

Adding to what Jeffrey Munoz said below...you don't swim in WRL because there is a real possibility you will get stuck in the mud bottom and drown. I have known of 2 people who drowned, one off T&P Hill, the other near a sailing club. I lived by the lake when it was dredged. In some places the lake was less than a foot deep. Prior to the dredging I saw a guy walking around wearing a strange backpack. I asked what he was doing. He was carrying a GPS with a tall mushroom shaped antenna (how times have changed) to communicate with a satellite. He was mapping where the dredging pipes were going to be laid to pump the sludge out of the lake and south of Dallas. He said that one of the GPS teams working in the lake itself became stuck in the mucky bottom and had to be rescued. Don't swim in WRL because you never know when you put your foot down you might not be able to pull it back up.

My great grandmother and another elderly person told me the the dam was built to flood the area to cover up some very old structures, also the pump station and the bath house are built on top of older structures that were already there. Also the CCC destroyed some of the old structures that were around the lake and built on the same places. Also some of the old houses on Garland road across from the lake were rebuilt on older buildings that were there. Does anyone have any photos of buildings from the 1800's of this area? I wonder if this area was used as a quarry at one time.

*The main reason why it's dangerous to swim in lakes, is because you can't see things under the water that could possibly drown you. If your foot were to get stuck on something in the water, you will likely drown if you can't free yourself.*

My friend swam in a lake in San Antonio TX in the end of May. He drowned. I had another group of church friends who fell into a lake, one of the girls ended up drowning.

I've now life's in Dallas 50 years where I've ALWAYS understood White Rock Lake to be unsanitary and un-swimable.Especially the last 15-20 years. Fun to enjoy around the so called lake but definitely not in it.
