So I was flipping through the pages of the book when I realized something. Verity’s reason for telling Crew to hold his breath and not Harper in the letter was because she believed Harper would be fine since she has played in the lake many times before. But if you go back to where Verity writes about it in the manuscript, Crew says “Harper can’t swim.” Verity must have known Hrper was unable to swim, but claimed she played in the lake all the time. If Verity was aware of this and let Harper play in the lake often, there’s no way she would have let her go without a life jacket.

The biggest headscratcher is how none of the nurses and doctors couldn’t tell that Verity isn’t even brain-dead. And there’s no way the letter is true because Verity did indeed say ‘hold your breath, Crew’ which implies that she let Harper die. Also, if Jeremy was indeed behind the wheel in the Range Rover that caused Verity’s ‘brain-dead state’, then how did Jeremy end up unscathed? So many questions unanswered.

The thing that convinced me that the autobiography was the real thing was that Verity wrote about Harper's death right after it happened. You can be good at writing from the villain's perspective and be a decent person, but you would definitely go through a grieving period after losing a child. If you're a good or even mediocre mother, your first thought after your child's death isn't going to be, "Oh, let me rewrite this into an antagonistic journaling exercise where I planned on murdering my daughter 🤷" no way. And I think Jeremy was only taking care of her because he believed she was brain dead and felt some guilt, but once he realized she was actually faking it he knew she was a threat to Crew.

I literally just finished the book, and I’m right there with you Christine. There is no way someone would right that kind of disturbingly descriptive accounts of- not only the physical nature of their relationship with their partner- but of harming their child in any conceivable way with the supposed intention of publishing that crazy shit and NOT give some kind of indication that it was a red herring. And you’re right, there had to be some kind of long-term seedling of doubt growing in Jeremy’s mind over YEARS for him to 1. Read and believe the autobiography immediately and 2. Snap and attempt to kill Verity, whom he clearly cared for deeply and had done for a long time. And the timing of the letter is just ridiculous- she wrote it when she knew Jeremy and Low we’re gonna end up being together, not when she first concocted her plan or first started talking to Crew, but when she knew Jeremy was lost to her. Also AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT NURSE WAS SUS AS HELL?! And I agree with your thoughts about the sleepwalking and the lock. I kept thinking something really bad was going to happen because Low would just walk around with a knife or something. Ok, rant over. I still need therapy.

Since I believe her manuscript is real, the thing that creeped me out the most was in her letter she gave an example of her 'antagonistic' point of view to justify to Jeremy that it's fake by using the time they were having that chat with her publisher or someone. The villainous POV is so ironic and freaky because, to me, it was the first time in that letter she was saying her truth...she actually was annoyed and pissed off at Jeremy for not caring about her career, she actually was embarrassed that he was reading an eBook that was something other than hers. That intensely ironic peart of that letter gave me the literal CHILLS of my life.

Am I the only one that believes Verity’s letter? Verity said how she was escalating the horribleness of each chapter each time she wrote a chapter and that’s how reading it felt. It felt disjointed, like she got more stereotypically insane with each chapter. She was so different in the last chapter than the first one. Plus Lowen said she looked terrified when Jeremy found out, which is evidence that he tried to kill her before. Also, she could fake loving her kid to Jeremy, but the kid would feel if his mother was actually warm, and Crew seemed to love his mother (he kept her secret, drew pictures, was in her room all day, etc)
@thatoneshweta1163

It was all the big misunderstanding, only if lowen didn't become obsessive over Jeremy and take part in murdering her, the truth would have unleashed. They could have talked about it..I suspect Jeremy more, he lied from the beginning to lowen, it's just feel like he needed validation from someone else to say yes to his thoughts and yes to the murder of his wife in last moments when lowen confessed about the manuscript, as if he was bidding his time because he didn't want to listen to anyone because of his trauma of losing children, he could have talked to her wife and lowen was too obsessed over the character(Jeremy) in the story even if it's autobiography, she had similar thoughts about Corey, how he fell in love with the character she wrote but was not pleased how she was different in the real world and Corey (her ex) didn't realise her. Lowen discarded the trait in him but she did the same with Jeremy through the manuscript, of course Verity was a popular writer even better than lowen, if Corey can misunderstood the character for lowen, then lowen could also saw Jeremy through the words of verity, the ending was just felt rushed explaining everything, crew looked comfortable with her mother too, he should have acted afraid after the Harper's death if verity tried to kill her daughter..

@@thatoneshweta1163 wowww!! I didn’t even think about this part, how Corey fell in love with Lowen because of her writing & basically Lowen fell in love with Jeremy because of his writing, which probably hints that he’s not exactly like the character Verity wrote about either 😩

@@jadeventoniemi5795 yea, and did you realise that lowen and Jeremy didn't spend much together, she knew most of him through Verity's writing. It grows my suspicions what if the author wanted us to think about two story-plot inter-twining each other. It's interesting.

I find it more disturbing that I can relate to Verity. The part making a darker world than the one she lives in kinda stuck with me, I sometimes find myself thinking things could be worse by me making it worse and I’m happy to be in a world where I am sane and not the other one that I created if that mkaes sense lol. Jeremy is total creep and maybe just as distorted as Verity. But in the ending part, I find Verity’s manuscript infecting Lowen. Lowen was starting to become the manuscript version of Verity, obsessed and infatuated with Jeremy and even swallowed the letter to keep him from seeing it. She mentioned that she didn’t want Jeremy to deal with guilt, but her reaction towards the letter was ill asf. If I were in her position, I’d be thinking of the murder that we did instead of feeling bad for Jeremy. I think the manuscript grew on her without her noticing.
@turtle6582

princhimin I agree with Lowen becoming obssessed! It was showing that Lowen was starting to change and also have that creepy side in her but could not blame her since her situation really was creepy. For the sleep walking, I'd understand her for that but for the murder? I was like 'wait, that just crossed the line.' But still, I believe that was an important twist in the story which makes it good since I did not expect Jeremy and Lowen to go that far.

••WARNING SPOILERS** This book is crazy read it today in 1 sitting here are some questions I have : 1. If verity wanted those baby’s dead why did she try so hard to abort them herself? She could have easily got an abortion without Jeremy knowing 2. If the letter is true and she really loved her children where did the scar on one of the twins come from ? 3. Why would Jeremy protect and look after verity for so long if he suspected her of murdering Harper surely he would have just contacted the police? 4. Why did Verity not give life jackets to both Crew and Harper before going out on the lake (especially 6 months after losing a daughter you would think she would be more careful) and why just tell Crew to take a deep breath and save him first? 5. Why did Lowen bite the exact spot Verity did on the headboard? Found this part really weird, was that Lowens weird way of trying to show Verity she has her life now? 6. Why would verity write the letter just after she heard lowen and Jeremy doing it? Makes me think it was probably out of obsession for Jeremy jealousy of his relationship with lowen and a coverup for the autobiography 7. Why did verity keep the knife under the floorboard? Was she worried jeremy would try to hurt her ? or was she planning on killing lowen or Jeremy when she got the chance? Why were the pictures of the girls there too if she never really cared about them? 8. If the manuscript is true why does crew sit with verity most days? Why did he bite down on the knife and cut his hand did verity teach him to do this ? 9. I found the scene with April awkward when she pulled Lowen aside and asked her to watch what she was saying infront of Verity? Did April know she was listening ? 10. Did verity write the letter intentionally knowing Lowen would find it first to torture her for the rest of her life for stealing her husband away? (Lowen would live the rest of her life not knowing the truth) 11. Lowen sets up the baby monitor in Veritys room, did she ever switch it off? Crew might have been watching and witnessed his mother’s murder I have sooo many more questions but this book is creepy AF , I think I am going more towards the manuscript being true

OKAY so first of all I’m leaning towards the manuscript theory being true but my answers to your questions are all neutral (kind of) 1. Verity was a writer back then, and not that successful yet. Abortions are a bit pricey so I think she didn’t wanna waste her money on something like that. 2. The doctor DID say it happens to a lot of twins because the space they shared was cramped, so I think Verity used that as a cover-up of her unsuccessful abortion. 3. I think Jeremy just looked after her bc he thinks she’s brain dead and that even if he does tell the police, he wouldn’t feel satisfaction since in the end, Harper was already gone from this world :( THIS BOOK LEFT ME so fucking confused but it was rlly good as well😭

Reading the letter was like "WHAT?" and it was kind of perfect setup because when she writes the first sentence about the autobiography not painting the author in the best light, I mean you think what comes next is going to be true so when the letter comes it just made me second guess the whole thing because I mean it's kind of the perfect twist. Someone who is a writer getting in the mindset of a killer and writing these things, that is a fucking brilliant writer y'all and I mean yeah I see what you're saying with the writing exercise but Jeremy only read like one of Verity's stories so her not saying it was a writing exercise is understandable. It just leaves it on a very disturbing note which was why I gave it such a high rating because it's amazing, disturbing and really well done in my opinion. I honestly have mixed feelings with the plot twist, letter at the end. A bigger side of me believes that she's still this horribly evil mother that k*lled her child and tried to miscarry the twins. (For Jeremy and Lowen's relationship sake and Lowen's sanity). But a small, small part of me feels like the letter holds truth and Verity got herself into a very coincidentally dangerous situation. We know for a fact that some of the things she was saying are factual: Like when she said that Jeremy already knew about the manuscript. We know this is true because when Lowen confronts Jeremy about it, finally, his choice of words was "where did you get this?", instead of maybe, I don't know, "what is this?" or "what are you talking about?". Something like that. But at the same time, she could be telling the truth about some things but, for the most part, made up everything else so she can cleverly hide the fact that she's been torturing the twins for years upon years. Well, I guess we, or Jeremy for that matter, will never find out because Lowen ate the letter. lol. But what else can you aspect from a Colleen Hoover book?

Spoiler alert . . . I think Colleen did a good job through the form of the book of leaving it up to interpretation. As the reader you, together with Lowen, never know what is true and what's not from the manuscript. Verity could have treated her children very differently than what's described there. Lowen never has a conversation with Jeremy about what Verity was like with her daughters. So the way she never talks about Harper etc etc could just be fiction - we don't hear from Jeremy saying that's true. Overall point - it's written well enough that both options are plausible and that's the whole charm (and point) of the book.

Yes, I read this too while nervous under a blanket thinking is it the wife, the husband, the strange woman at the house. This definitely captured those lifetime movie vibes. I too was too shaken by the manuscript, no way this is fiction. You can't just write... Ha ha I was only joking. There are some jokes you just don't tell and yet here I was reading it, here Colleen was writing it....

I still don't think it was right for them to kill Verity. Are we not going to talk about how Lowen and Jeremy's first thought after finding out that Verity was faking her brain damage is that they should kill her and make it look like an accident??? Verity was clearly overpowered. They could have locked her up or knocked her out somehow and filed a report to the police. But to kill Verity in the SAME exact way Autobiography-Verity had attempted to kill Harper as a baby? That was very suspicious. Never was and never will be fond of Jeremy. He seemed too perfect to be real, both in his interactions with Lowen and the way Verity wrote about him. He definitely knew more than he let on.

i think the proof that the letter was fake is one of the girl’s scar from her failed abortion. jeremy himself said that scar is too deep to be from birth issues that doctor said could be a reason behind the scar. plus clew’s reaction when lowen asked him does his mother talk, like okay he got scared cuz he shouldn’t have said that but a 5year to be scared to the point he hurts himself?? nah, his mother scared him to that point cause she was crazy!! and her excuse not to tell a daughter to hold her breath but tell it to crew because she already hang with a daughter there, um excuse me, why not warn both kids-you’re a mother? like there are many arguments that point out that the letter could be true, but there are also many holes. at the end of the day what normal person would fake such a condition, she could’ve just talk to him it would take her a minute to say it’s a fake story. I think she faked it because that was the only way she could stay close to jeremy/freedom after he found out everything. which takes me to a bigger issue/question-jeremy. i actually liked him and all bad things he had done to verity didnt make me like him any less, he did what had to he done lol. but here’s a big hole, did he know about everything and did he actually tried to kill her in that car...i think when he asked where did lowen find a book, isn’t really a proof that he knew about it, it’s just a simple question most people would ask. plus, I think the biggest argument he didn’t know is when lowen first sees verity, jeremy brushes her hair of her forehead. sounds stupid but hear me out, if he knew everything, and if he tried to kill her, why would he do that? yes, its a small thing he just touched her, but still if you hate someone you wouldn’t do that simple act of affection. we know he didn’t love her no more at that point, but if he knew she murdered their baby, he wouldn’t do that random action. it’s seem irrelevant, but he had to change/bathe her when nurse wasn’t there no matter if he wanted it or not, but that gesture as small as it is, wasn’t something he had to do unless he wanted to and no one wants to touch their kid’s killer lol. and another argument- when he opened up to lowen saying he felt angry when verity crushed with her car-why would he said that if he actually tried to kill her. no reason to bring that up, and it seemed like a honest confession he used to do open up to lowen a lot. another thing, if he knew why would he let her stay with her? because she acted as dead already and crew needed a mom? uh yeah, not good enough to let her in and respect vows to your baby killer lol. not to mention, when he was reading that book, uh if he already knew why would he read it again and remind himself of all these horrible things?? he could’ve just been like “oh shit ye verity is a psycho, lowen could be saying the truth let’s see if the bitch is faking it all.” but no, it looked as he read it and was more like “fuck everything’s a lie, she’s a monster, lowen’s probably right”. uh oh, confusion 1000 lol. now-what if letter is the truth.. why would she have twins’ picture in the floor if she hated them/one of them? and what is the real problem is if he didn’t know everything. why would verity put that in a letter for him? when it would easily expose her for lying, because he would know it’s fake since he would be like “that never happend/I never read it” and that argument honestly wins lol. still, however you put it- letter or story both make and don’t make sense, and you can’t tell what’s the truth.😭 it kinda didn’t like that in the book tho, I think it’s a good ending for a plot twist/shook and let the readers think, but then again it has a lot of holes. I just wish colleen would tell us what is it (but I’m afraid she herself doesn’t have that answer) or even better-write a second book where we get to see lowen and jeremy’s love after (I liked them as a couple) and more secrets to be exposed. I feel like it would be sososo good!!

I have so many question after reading this book. (SPOILER) First of all, if everything that's in her manuscript is the oppositie of what she really thinks, it means that she DOES love her children but DOESN'T love Jeremy. This could make sense, because in the letter she said that Jeremy wanted to kill her. BUT when Lowen starts reading in the manuscript, she asks how Jeremy met Verity and he says the same as what's in the manuscript, which could mean the manuscript is true OR Jermey read the manuscript and also knew Lowen read it, so he said what was in the manuscript... (my mind is blown) Another proof that this theory is true: there was this moment where Crew waved at Verity in the window and Crew wasn't scared at all. But on the other hand, why would there be a knife in the room with Crew and Verity?? Finishing the book I thought the manuscript was true, because: - During the accident with Harper, Verity only tells Crew to hold his breath and she knew Harper couldn't swim, also in the reality. Crew also confirmed that Verity only said it to him (if I'm right)... Also just wondering right now, why would Verity suddenly stand up and spy on Lowen if she says in the letter that she was scared to be caught and that she would rather move away with Crew...???? Pls discuss in the comments :)))

If Jeremy had already read that manuscript then why was he pretending to be shocked later when Lowen told him about that autobiography?

I just kind of wish there was no letter. That Lowen still felt creeped out, fearing regular creaks in the night. And maybe imply Lowen killed her mom. When she told Jeremy how to kill Verity it made me think she killed her own mom

Okay but here’s what gets me... He knows what’s in the manuscript, takes care of her for months, acts like this is the first he hears about it when Lowen gives it to him, and then acts all dramatic like he’s caught in a rage of emotion and has to kill her to protect his child. Felt to me like he had to kill her so that she wouldn’t expose him for trying to kill her twice before. And then him and Lowen just go on living their lives? He’s the suspicious one.

For me the most disturbing thing is that Jeremy believed that she was sick even if he knew that she was a liar. And that every time lowen told him he didn’t believe her. For me he knew that she was faking it. I don’t know for me the weirdest is Jeremy...
@hebaibrahem5706
3 жыл бұрын
Maybe he didn't want to believe that she's faking it I mean it's easier for him if she's brain-dead he doesn't have to live with the guilt that he actually killed her and also the villain that she is isn't there anymore And he was taking care of her because he was feeling guilty that he tried to kill her and then when he fell in love with lowen he decided to put her in a facility he decided to continue living his life with his child and lowen but when he found out that she's faking it he felt more anger towards her and that's why he tried to kill her again
@fanny9968

@@hebaibrahem5706 yeah maybe it was easier to believe for him but he knew what she had done and he knew about the manuscript and he just waited until lowen showed it to him to have a reaction. I think the true villain here is Jeremy...

@@fanny9968 I really don't know but maybe Colleen wanted to show that each of them had a dark side For me I believe that verity killed harper and did all those horrible things and also I believe that Jeremy tried to kill her and faked the accident And also Lowen had darkness in her, she told Jeremy to kill verity with such cold blood and also didn't want to bother herself with discovering the truth and showing the letter to Jeremy and confronting him she even ate the letter!! So for me everyone of them is guilty

I found no one in the comment section who thinks the letter was the truth but i felt what she wrote there was the actual truth because her manuscript was so terrible like lowen's jokes that it can't be the truth and she is not stupid why will she write here own death sentence if she thought people would believe it was the actualy her. I just read the whole book in her prespective because the book was named after her and she felt too unreal in the manuscript like she was writting it when she was angry and in her darkest moment but what she wrote was disturbing like most of tarryn fisher characters but she was so up a notch with the crazy that she can't be real
