Wow, first interview I've seen with Veronica Roth. She's a lot younger than I expected! Great interview by the way, was really interesting hearing her insights. Can't wait to see the film! :)

booksandquills I really expected her to be in her mid 30s, especially with the success she's had with the books - quite rare I think, which is a pity, there are so many talented young novelists out there. Guess they'll just be on Granta's list in the next 10 years instead :)

Great interview Sanne, I like how your questions go a little bit deeper than the 'standard interview' questions. Veronica seems like a very nice and smart person :) I'm super excited to see the movie! I personally prefer reading books before their cinematographic adaptations, mostly because I get to build my own images as I read the story. Movies have such strong visuals that they often overpower my less precise, imagined places and characters... so I like to give myself the chance of seeing them how I want to see them, first.

I am personally a very slow reader (the actual speed of my reading is fast, but my reading comprehension lacks, mostly in fiction books where descriptive language is so heavy) and this causes me to... not read. I read fiction VERY sparingly. I find that seeing a movie BEFORE reading a book helps me because it's easier to visualize the settings, characters, and situations once I've already seen them played out on screen. Sooo, that's my argument for movie-before-book. I know there aren't many people in my shoes, but I'd thought I'd offer some perspective.

We hear about strong male characters all the time. There should be equal representation for strong male and strong female characters. I do agree with Veronica though, I think we should be striving for more complex characters as opposed to 'strong' although I'm always happy to see characters that are strong I'm rambling now
