RIP James Earl Jones. You were like my black grandfather from another mother. He always seemed such a lovely guy. Big heart. And man, he was so good as Vader's voice: "Tear this ship apart until you find those plans!" Not to mention, "you know the riddle of steel?" I'll miss him.

I was genuinely excited to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Unfortunately I thought it was just okay. It captured the look of the original but didn't feel the same. I probably won't see it again and just watch the original.

James Earl Jones played legendary heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson, in the Great White Hope and The Garbage man in Claudine with Diane Carroll. Two Great films no one's mentioned.

I was in a mostly-filled theatre for BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE, folks around my age (35+). Not many people laughed during it - I laughed more than most. I agree that the Monica B. subplot was unnecessary and just bloated it. BUT---- I loved the movie. I liked the fact that the film was so true to the original, and they really did nail the characters (again). It had the SAME goofy humour as the original.... and sometimes I think that modern audiences just can't stomach light goofy humour anymore. They can only process meta/sarcastic type humour... which is sad. I'd give it a good 7.5/10 realistically, but emotionally I'm maybe more of an 8.5/10. Glad I saw it in the theatre.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice suffers from the same problem as Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. It's overstuffed with too many subplots. Consequently the film has a lack of focus and doesn't allow the time and space that any one subplot needs in order to breath or be fully explored. There are just too many unnecessary things packed into the suitcase. I don't know why film makers can't just keep it simple. I think simplicity and simple storytelling is undervalued and underappreciated these days. Some of the best films are very simple stories.

Some of you guys have a real blind spot imo - just because a movie doesn't have "the message" you give it a lot of leeway. I did appreciate it's lack of preachy-ness....but it's simply not a very good film. They DID NOT get the characters right, it was convoluted, it was safe, and it was boring. Micheal Keaton was the one bright spot.

I was a massive Keaton fan in the 80s, and I thought Beetlejuice was...ok. I watched it again the other night and it just wasn't funny tbh. A bit silly maybe. A typical Tim Burton movie. It was no Ghostbusters or like other big comedies from the 80s. I love Keaton in Pacific Heights, he nails it.

I loved beetle juice 2 even with its flaws and would happily watch it again. It is a good possibility I will pick it up when it is released on Blue ray and DVD. If I wish for anything it would be to have more Beetlejuice and Lydia interaction.

hollywood like their "safe" bets. when people stop seeing these stupid sequels, prequels, reboots, etc maybe Hollywood will go back to pushing new creative original films. it sucks we are now lucky to get 2 or 3 actual real "good" movies a year. the 20th Century apparently was the peak of Western Civ.

@zeppelinboys - Bingo. It wouldn't be that bad if these sequels, and reboots were actually done out of some genuine love, or passion for the originals.....but they're pretty much all bland, stale, inoffensive corporate product. They're just made well enough so that the next one can be made.....and the next one, and the next one....and the next one. Oh and to sell merchandise - can't forget that sweet merch money!

everyone assume the creators have more to tell about those characters, there're many examples of this, The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, Die Hard 2, Godfather Part II, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, etc Nobody wants a shitty studio cashgrab, that's why flops like Dial of Destiny or Dead Reckoning exist.

Wait what? I had no idea whatsoever that anyone had any problem with Shang-Chi. IMO it was the best Marvil movie since Infinity War. Very much different in style, far more Wuxia type Asian story than a Marvil one. If anything, the writing was arguably its strongest point.

R.I.P James Earl Jones. To answer Paul's question about "Field of Dreams" from my EU point of view I would say it wasn't really a film that hit hard here. Besides the obvious in SW and Lion King, "Hunt for Red October" and "Coming to America" were much more popular ones.
