I got a sign of relief cause the project I am about to start a 110 is all I have at my disposal. You confirmed the possibility of producing a beautiful weld is achievable on the 110. Hey Bob, awesome welding, and well done on the video! Do you always weld left handed? I found it interesting that you drop lower on that left side of the joint. Is that a preference of yours? It is cool to see the consistently angled pattern. Cheers.
@Welddotcom
7 жыл бұрын
I noticed that drop as well. It looked like I welded that on a diagonal but I can assure, it is straight (perpendicular) with the joint. It must be a camera angle that made it look like that. I weld with both hands but I’m more comfortable with the left hand. Also, we set the cameras and lighting up in our shop that way so it is just easier to work around it. Thanks for the feedback, keep in touch.

I am relatively new at welding. What exactly is "weld undercut"?
@Welddotcom
8 жыл бұрын
Undercutting is a groove or crater that occurs near the toe of the weld. When this weld flaw occurs, the weld metal fails to fill in that grooved area, resulting in a weak weld that is prone to cracking along the toes.

Hi Bob, you do a good welding job on here, but a root pass vertical down? If I do it on a job I'm fired. Over here it's strictly forbidden to do that. But I think you only do it this way to get a flat root pass inside. Then I can understand it.

Like your videos, plus the fact that you are showing us welding and not marketing a new tool for some vendor that sent it out. I don't mind seeing some new tools presented on other videos, but when most all of the video is about the tool that's not why I subscribed to in the first place. Just had to get that out - nothing to do with your videos. I have a suggestion for a future video. I have a good Miller helmet but can't seem to follow the weld pool as clearly as when watched on the video. I see where you go right up to the edge without undercut. I end up with too much undercut, sometimes end up out of the weld totally - like a drunk driver :-( I have tried changing the settings 8, 9,.. etc and have played with the sensitivity, not all that sure about it, and no help. Note I am 70 and maybe it is just my eyes? A video (or 2) covering undercut and helmet setting would be helpful, at least to me. Thanks for a great job!!

Question, if you were running that machine on 220v, would you have ran the same wire feed and voltage settings?

Voltage and WFS would stay the same. 220v just allows you to go higher if you need more.
@Welddotcom
8 жыл бұрын
We did the same weld on 220V with very similar settings in another video. We had 235 on the WFS and 17.2 on the voltage. However, the reason wasn't due to input power, we just happened to set it slightly different that day. So the short answer is, No, we would'nt have set it any different on 220v.
