Lyrics: Come ye sinners poor and needy Weak and wounded sick and sore Jesus ready stands to save you With compassion, love and power Come ye thirsty to the fountain Come and find his goodness here True belief and true repentance Every grace that brings you near I will arise and go to Jesus He will embrace me as His own And in the arms of my Savior There is life forevermore Come ye weary heavy laden Lost and ruined by the fall And if you wait until you're better You will never come at all I will arise and go to Jesus He will embrace me as His own And in the arms of my Savior There is life forevermore You are life forevermore There is no one else for me No else for me I won't look back I won't look back I will arise and go to Jesus He will embrace me as His own And in the arms of my Savior There is life forevermore (Second time only)

Maybe the word "charms" didn't have the occult implications in 1759 that it does today. We changed that last line to, "There is shelter from all harm." (Pardon us Mr. Hart) Vertical Worship has a beautiful lyric change as well. Praise the Lord!

Can we for once keep the original arrangement for a modernization? They almost ruined this deep song for me.
@ChaseMorrisTV

they're reaching a whole new generation with this version. if you can't appreciate that, we have bigger issues. I understand it may not be your favorite version, but don't patronize these talented musicians that love Jesus.
@FRANQ1517

The point is that there is a method and philosophy of hymn singing, one which is also deeply ingrained in how David composed his Psalms. If you write out these lyrics and compare them with the Psalms you will easily see the flow. It's no about patronizing the oh so talented musicians who love Jesus. The Psalms and worship in general, are not about "talented musicians," it is about worshipping God as He gave us 150 examples of Biblical themed worship. Also, a congregation is more likely to sing a hymn in its original than this vocal musical performance.
@kimturner3744

James Smetanin even the "traditional" version was brand new for some congregation way back when. To assume that the original composer of this hymn had some superior insight as to arranging the words found in scripture is ridiculous. Joseph Hart published this in 1759, close to 2,000 years after Matthew wrote his gospel, a section of which, chapter 11:28-30 is cited as reference. There are many cultural differences between generations and I don't see a problem with that.
@way240

I'm sure the newer generation would disagree; as most younger people like the instrumentals, vocals, and the build up of the song in comparison to a hymn. Speaking from the younger generation, I'm not interested in doing old hymns in church. If old hymns are being brought back and modernized so that they can still be sang in a contemporary church that reaches the younger generation, then I say go for it. And just like anyone would say on any youtube video in response to "I don't like this song"...DONT LISTEN TO THE SONG. Go listen to your favorite version. God bless!

UnderRottingSky Jesus didn't make us sinners since we're all already born in sin! He made us "Forgiven Sinners"!! I will never consider Him an enemy but a Faithful Forever Friend!
@kcmi89

I'm sorry but you have the Gospel gravely mistaken. Jesus did not make us sinners. We were born and shaped in sin because of the fall of man and because of our decisions to sin. Christ was gracious and loving to come and become the sacrificial lamb to redeem us of sin. No greater love have a man know than this that he would lay down his life for his friends. That was the greatest act of love. That doesn't sound an enemy to me. I pray you come to the understanding of the fullness of the gospel.

kcmi89 I see what you're saying but I also see where that person is coming from. He made it so that we are born into sin, it seems that we have no choice. It was in His plan for man to fall and now we must worship and serve Him in order to not go to hell. Which I know is the wrong attitude but its got me stuck.
@nelsoncruz8191

Lisa Steiginga Christ never "made it" so that we are be born into sin, it was Adam's fault that he chose to disobey God and bring sin into the world. It also was not in His plan for man to fall! You seem to find it so easy to blame God, how about blaming SATAN for all of the evil he started! What if after all this sin entered into the world, God would have done absolutely nothing? How would you feel about that? Well, God did something about it, He sent His beloved Son Jesus to die for us so that we could one day enter Heaven and be forever with HIM! That to me sounds like L-O-V-E!!! I don't worship God in order to NOT go to Hell, I worship Him because I LOVE Him for all he has done for me!
@lisasteiginga4444

Nelson Cruz thank you, I was trying to understand it, not argue against it. I apologize if it sounded attacking. It does make faith a lot more meaningful when we are grateful to Him. I guess I meant he allowed man to fall into sin but i see now that this ended up being much better for us because now we do have the choice to love and live for God instead of for ourselves. Thanks again for your reply.
