BPPV hit me a month ago when I rolled over one morning to get out of bed. How scary it was...I thought I was going to meet my maker as the whole world was spinning violently and I began throwing up from intense nausea. After a trip to the ER, bloodwork, EKG, and CAT scan to the head, the scary stuff was ruled out. I was diagnosed with BPPV, given drugs to ease the vertigo and nausea (which didn't help much), and scheduled to see a physical therapist the next day. By the time the next day came, the vertigo was gone. However, the physical therapist did show me how to perform the home Epley Maneuver. All was good. Fast forward to this past weekend. I rolled over in bed to get up and it hit me again. Try as I might, I could not get past the second step of the Epley Maneuver without intense vertigo, nausea, and vomiting. I started looking at youtube videos and discovered Dr. Foster's half-summersault maneuver. What a charm! I did not get the intense vertigo and nausea I did from the Epley Maneuver, and it worked. I had to do it 3 times (waiting 15 minutes between tries as recommended by Dr. Foster), but it did subside. This video is the real deal!

I was lucky to get another appointment with a vestibular doctor who prescribed me steroids and is going to do a balance exam next week however he did tell me to try this exercise I'm going to try it now and see if it works with steroid I can't really feel the dizziness but it a tingle feeling so hopefully it works

I've been SO sick for the last 3 weeks! Taking nausea medication every 4 hours. I finally went to the ER last week and after all kinds of tests they said it's Vertigo. I had started taking Ambien for the first time just a few days before the nausea started and I thought it was a reaction to that. I had Vertigo several years ago but had forgotten about it and thought it was a result of the new medication. I found your video last night and decided to try it (2 other methods, including Epley, didn't work). I tried this method and for the first time in weeks I don't have nausea and haven't taken any medication in 8 hours. I still feel a little disoriented but I think that will go away in a couple of days. I had to do the maneuver 4 different times because I couldn't tell which ear was affected. But, it works! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!! I wish you much success in the future. God bless you!

I've had bouts of BPPV for several years now. I've always done the Epley manoeuvre to get rid of it with a fair amount of success. This manoeuvre is easier actually. I had to do it this morning and after feeling utterly dire beforehand and while carrying it out, I feel better now than I have for days. It's weird because here in Italy they seem largely unaware of BPPV, putting absolutely every case of vertigo down to "Cervicale" (due to neck tension - their go-to for nearly everything), something I'd never even even heard of prior to living here, and "labyrinthitis". I mentioned BPPV to my doctor once and I had the feeling he had no idea what I was talking about, which is a bit worrying!! Thanks for this easy solution!

There needs to be a public awareness campaign about this very scary condition/experience. I was pushed by medical professionals to go to the emergency room and have a barrage of tests (concern about a possible stroke even though I had no other symptoms besides the dizziness and nausea). I found my own info online about BPPV - it took three days of performing the Epley Manuever without results. My extreme spinning and nausea occurred for hours after waking up. One try of the Half Somersault technique (with a bucket next to me in case) finally did the trick.

When I began to get out of bed yesterday morning, my whole room started spinning around like crazy. It was startling to say the least! As I went through my day, I was very uneasy and anxious as to what this might be, as certain movements continued to trigger the spinning sensation, although not quite as severely as the morning episode. I found this video last night and did the protocol twice. I went to bed, and with double pillows went to sleep cautiously on my right side. During the night I rolled over onto the other side, and suddenly felt as though I were in a capsizing ship as my bed upended itself as if it were going to dump me on the floor. I came fully awake and sat up, shaking, as the sensations receded. After a time I went back to sleep on the right side again and slept through the rest of the night. When I carefully got out of bed this morning, I discovered the problem had resolved! During my morning appointments, I felt a little bit of dizziness around the edges of my awareness; but by late afternoon, that too had resolved. I hope never to have a recurrence of this frightening problem, but if I do, I know now how to correct it! Thank you so very much for posting this!

Dear Dr. AJ, I had suffered from BPPV and canal paresis since I was only 4. My neurologist prescribed betahistin, it didn't seem to help that much, and the illness tortured me to the age of 18 or so. Since then, I had very little symptoms, but about 10 days ago, all of a sudden a continuous dizziness started that is only gone when I lay down. Today, it became so severe (despite of the fact I took betahistin again and started doing vestibular exercises) that I could hardly leave my chair at work. Last week I contacted an otorhinolaryngologist, but I only have appointments for MRI and otoneurologic examinations for next week. I'm really seeking for answers what can cause such an uncomfortable and prolonged illness, since such a young age. I watched this video, did the exercises 3 times and they seem to help a bit. I still feel very dizzy while walking, but at least the worst of my vertigo is over. Thank you.

hello, Dr. AJ! I got diagnosed with BPPV late last year and had another attack just this week. As I searched for some exercise, I came across your video, which is where I found out about this new maneuver (previously I only knew about the Epley maneuver). You mentioned in your video to "treat" a specific ear, but when I tried this out, I don't really feel the spinning sensation on either sides of my body/ear, but only felt it when I tilt my head back (center). I tried doing this maneuver one time for my left ear and assessed myself right after, as what you did in the video. I didn't feel the spinning when I tilted my head on either side, but rather felt it in between, i.e. as my head moved along the center/front. In this case, is it better to just do this maneuver for both ears? Or, would this be a different case altogether? I did feel some relief after the first try, compared to doing the Epley maneuver earlier. So your video has been of great help!!

Calcium levels may be a factor because low levels of vitamin D are linked to increased risk of BPPV and Vitamin D helps our body regulate calcium. @StronglifePhysiotherapy

The exercise repositions the particles so they aren’t causing dizziness in your inner ear canals but they can get back in there with certain head positions. You may have to sleep with your head elevated for a week or so and avoid laying flat with your head tilted back and avoid tilting your head all the way back when upright or tilting your head down toward the floor. These head positions can cause the particles to re-enter your canals. Vitamin D can help prevent recurrences. Hope that helps!

this maneuver usually works on me. i did it again this morning on my right side, which stopped the slight spinning of the room, but as i was resting and recovering from the nausea, the room started to spin again whenever i looked downwards. it stopped when i focused my eyes straight. this was the first time i experienced this. so i tried the deep head hanging exercise and then the half somersault move about 15 mins later, but neither stopped the spin when i bent forward or looked downwards. i'm trying not to look down as i'm typing this and hoping it will go away soon. is this common as well for bppv? and is there another exercise i could do to alleviate those symptoms? thank you.

If it is a short lasting but intense episode of dizziness (1 minute or so) that happens when she lays down in bed or gets up, it is probably BPPV.

There's not really a limit. It takes most people 3-5 attempts to get the spinning to fully stop but you can do more than that if needed in a day or wait until another day. If you get too nauseated you can give yourself more time in between attempts.

But how do you people can stand the dizziness while doing this? I went to the doctor 2 days ago, just trying to find which side was affected. OMG I just could stand lying down 5 seconds I started to cry and when he got me up...well that was the worst experience of my life, spinning spinning spinning. So I spent the rest of the day very bad. Now I'm at home, sad and desperate. And the vertigo has caused me neck contractures and I know I won't be able to do any of these maneuvers 😭 (sorry for my english)

I’m so sorry to hear you are suffering with this! If your symptoms are constant it probably isn’t from BPPV. Y sounds like you have a different type of vertigo. If your vertigo is from BPPV then this maneuver will trigger the spinning sensation but you will also notice improvement afterwards (it usually takes multiple attempts). If it is not BPPV vertigo you likely will not trigger a vertigo spell or if you do it will not improve.
@StronglifePhysiotherapy
2 жыл бұрын
There are many different causes of vertigo, some can be permanent. Others, like BPPV, can be resolved. If you aren't getting any relief, it's worth getting a diagnosis which often will require a specialist like a neurologist or ENT. I wish you the best in getting relief!

Hi I'm Krishan Pal. I've been suffering from vertigo since 2017. It all started when I started gym on my own at the home without using proper equipments and guidance. I regret of every moment of my life why did I start working out at home own my own. I used to lift heavy weight about 70kg bench press, 110kg squats and 110kg deadlift. Even mom tried to stop but I was advertently killing myself. Watching all these hunk guys video's Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman, Jay cutler, Kevin so on bodybuilders i motivated and satisate myself. I was heading in the wrong direction but who doesn't want to look like these guys. Everyone praise their's bodies and I was one of them. I wanted to look like them that's the reason I started working out. I pushed hard to attain the body that i desired to. I started taking multivitamin shit Becadexamin, supradin. For a while i thought it would going to make my body like bodybuilders. I couldn't afford protein supplements so I dropped the Idea of purchasing it. I started eating rice just like bodybuilders as I was a vegetarian i couldn't eat chicken, fish. I also taken speed height capsules because I was ashamed of my height. Sorry for going out of the tangent let's get back to the story where was i eating stuff yeah. I became glutton i eaten whatever food I got hands on me in the house. Sometimes i eaten food even i hadn't felt hungry. I hadn't bench for bench press i made my own jugaad with bricks and wooden phata. That was biggest mistake I ever made using jugaad. I had done exercises in excess without taking days off. One day when I woke up i feel dizzy everything around me spinning every time I tried to move my eyes or head it gives me spinning so I called my mom for help. I told you not lift heavy weight. Now face the consequences said my mother when she I told her about my situation. But scolding for a while she ordered my father to take me to hospital. In the hospital my whole body checkup had done. They came up with report that said I have vitamin B12 deficiency and liver problems. Doctor given me vitamin B12 shots for 2 weeks. In two months I was gone through 10,000₹ for low class family it's a big deal. I stopped taking B12 shots and started taking dexorange syrup. In one month i feeling well so I stopped visiting doctor. I started working out again and the vertigo come back with severity. This time I couldn't bend forward or backward, lift up head , lift down head, move head right and left. If i tried to move my eyes suddenly it gives me spinning. I visited doctor again he told me to checkup my whole body again by hearing these words I dropped the Idea of treating from him and gone to civil hospital near to me. In the civil hospital they don't care about the patient unless it's an emergency case. They checked my BP and asked me about what kind of disease i had and given me medicine of Vertin 8mg , Multivitamin, diclofenac. They hadn't taken my disease seriously so I also stopped visiting civil hospital too. Now I totally depends on Vertin 8mg and multivitamin medicine and my diet changed. I stopped eating food that can trigger vertigo and avoid activity that can trigger vertigo. Please guide me or recommend me a good doctor.
