The NYT didn’t even have the story on the front page of either their printed or website version. Thought the NYT does have a story about the best hiking boots. And they wonder why some Americans think we’re “doing too much,” which is yet another failure of theirs. They’ve also failed to explain we’re actually saving $ by getting rid of arms that were retired and were costing hundreds of millions to destroy. Or that the economic cost of deterring China would be incalculable as would the cost of Russia having control of half the world’s grain supply and being able to trigger famine induced migrant crises at any time.

Makes sense! Both the smallest Hammer bombs (being the French version of JDAM, the Hammer kits can be attached to various sizes of "dumb" bombs, from 125 kg all the way up to 1 000 kg) and the SDBs are about 250#, and that looks roughly right for the size of explosion here (NB: I'm not an expert). Yet another example of Ukraine using a precise scalpel and succeeding where Putin uses a 3 000 kg FAB sledgehammer and still fails.

@@user-sc3nn1hf1o Quite right, of course, and particularly salient point given Trump's looming potential re-election. Yes, it's perfectly possible and likely that Ukraine used its own intelligence resources to identify this target without American help, and my comment was basically an unfounded guess on that score. But the US does have some extremely impressive capabilities when it comes to this field (sigint/elint). There are the drone flights. but also more specialised sigint flights, and of course the satellites sitting out in geostationary orbits listening to everything day and night via their enormous 100m-diameter antennas So Russian drone pilots should get used to the uncomfortable feeling that every time they transmit, their signals are noticed, logged, and recorded, and they are being watched more closely than they imagine.

I wonder if there was no way to use something more potent than a drone drop. Because its a bit unfortunate that we have to talk about operators leaving skidmarks in their pants as opposed to a strike leaving operator skidmarks on the ground. And because yourube already deleted the above comment within 30s of my first attempt at posting it, I'll do the trusty old filter-fooler and just add more harmless words until it thinks the ratio of good to "bad" words is in favor of letting it pass. Oh my, how pathetic a company yourube/gooble is! All this talk about AI this and AI that but they cant make a filter that a) has some capacity to consider context and b) cant be tricked like this...

Someone has really messed with your head if you think the Ukrainians are fighting for anyone but themselves. They don't like having their land and people stolen. They don't want their government leaders poisoned. They don't want other countries to interfere with their internal politics.... and Russia has done all of that.
