Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting those GoFundMes!!! As a resident of Downingtown, I can attest that the whole Downingtown and Coatesville areas in Pennsylvania were devastated by the floods from Ida. Water levels we have never seen in area history. 100s of people are homeless right now, and many will not have their homes covered by insurance because they were not in a flood plane so did not have flood insurance. The community is working tirelessly day and night to just even dispose of all of the destroyed items, and so many homes are not habitable because of water damage, and electrical malfunction. Businesses already battered by the Covid epidemic are now shuttered for the rest of 2021 as they attempt to rebuild, they might not survive in the end. Any little bit helps and our local community went out immediately to help, but it just is not enough. I ask even if you can spare $5 or even $1 for the rebuilding of Downingtown and Coatesville. We thank you so much!!!❤️

TYRESE is a colorist himself that's what's hilarious 🤣 . When it comes to his women he says "we're all black" ...remember he called his non black wife a "black queen"? And then she came out and denied it🤣. FOH bruh...🙄

What got me was when he once said, and I quote, "Black women, don't be bitter, that's just his preference", while addressing colorism to his DSBW audience a few years ago.🤣🤣

Negative comments affect everyone. Sometimes I want to order something, there could be 98 good reviews and 2 bad comments and I won't order the thing because of the 2 bad reviews. I can get many compliments and just 1 critic that's the one that I'm impacted by. That's human nature, I guess.
@lynninfinite

It is human nature to be negative and have that be more strong. It comes from our ancestors because being negative kept them safe and alive. They always had to think “negatively” so that they’re prepared against animals and danger. Thinking that there’s a lion behind a rock saved them. 9/10, there wasn’t a lion. But the one time, thinking negatively prepared them and saved them. It takes a lot of rewiring to not let negative comments affect us.

"it'll probably just end up being more work", my life in a nutshell. Not the same, but I remember being mocked by my puerto rican friends for putting sugar on my fried plantain. Sorry, but my Mexican family and friends ate them as a sweet dessert not as a savory side dish. Taste is learned and so incredibly tied to the culture you were brought up in.

I agree with your take on Tyrese and the differences dark skin black men face in Hollywood than dark skin black women. I do think that the roles some dark skin black men are in are because of stereotypes and underlining prejudice that harm both dark skin black men and lighter skin black men (honestly all of us blk people). This doesn’t happen all the time but darker skin blk men are usually cast in roles that portray men who are masculine, strong, even violent or gangsta characters because they have darker skin (and we all know where that stemmed from) or because they need the characters appearance to ‘prove a point’. And because of this and how lighter skin is perceived, lighter skin blk men don’t get cast in these roles. Which is the complete opposite for blk women. A darker skin blk women may not be cast in a role because she may be seen as masculine or less feminine (which is bull!) But I think it’s safe to say that having dark skin effects both blk men and women negatively, although differently. I think at times we may dismiss comments darker skin black men may have by saying ‘well dark skin black men get cast all the time’ (& i’m not talking about Tyrese because my sentiments and his aren’t the same) but I think that just because darker skin blk man are cast in roles doesn’t always make it a good thing. All recognition isn’t good recognition. Media is changing but a lot of the roles most of these blk men starred in (in the beginning of their careers) just perpetuated the stereotype and isn’t the true reality of darker skin blk men. And outside of Hollywood, darker skin whether blk women or men isn’t always accept, because the idea that darker skin is masculine, violent, angry or any other type of association they place on dark skin harms both black men and women. I believe that for dark skin blk women the negative effects are LOUD (and whew I have stories), tho for darker skin black men the negative affects aren’t as loud but that doesn’t mean it’s not there. Talking about these topics made me realize the nuances in colorism and that it isn’t as straightforward as I thought it was. It open eyes that when talking about colorism…two things can be true at the same time. This response was long and I hope I made sense… but I feel like this community you’ve created here on KZitem is a safe place to have these discussions 🤎

You should check out F.D. Signifier's video on colorism and male actors in Hollywood, he makes the same point as you that colorism works differently for men in Hollywood and explores some of the complex reasons for it. Terrence Howard is most definitely a better actor than Tyrese and Tyrese needs to sit down all of the time in general...so sorry to hear about Greg's death I didn't even know he always seemed like a good decent man, terrible that people shaming Mercedes Morr in death but sadly, I am not surprised. Texas lawmakers are such trash I can't even process it. Let's send the babies to school without masks during a pandemic and give their parents $20,000 electric biils while they freeze during a storm but somehow we care so much about the babies that aren't here, make it make sense!... I season my grits and only like to eat them with savory meat or seafood, but I also always add a dash of brown sugar, change my mind. Great podcast!
