The Mitanni were an Indo-European (Hurrian) people whose kingdom in northern Mesopotamia flourished from about 1600 (Second Intermediate Period) until it was conquered by the Hittite King Suppiluliumas during the reign of Akhenaten. At its peak, the empire stretched from Kirkuk (ancient Arrapkha) and the Zagros mountains in western Iran in the east, through Assyria to the Mediterranean sea in the west. Its center was in the region of the Khabur River, where its capital, Wassukkani

The Medes were an ancient Indo-Aryan people. In the third millennium BC,they migrated from the North-west of Iran to the south &occupied the highlands of the Zagros.Starting with the 7th century BC,they organized a powerful Empire that fought against the Assyrians with considerable success&heralded the downfall of the Imperial Assyrian Empire of MesapotamiaThey exercised their power over much of modern-day Iran for a brief span of around150 years. The Medes are closely related to the modern kurd

I ended up here because I wanted to learn about Kurdish culture since most westerners know nothing about it. The comments I've read here from both pro-Kurds and anti-Kurds are disgusting. You all should be ashamed of yourselves if this is how you plan on raising the next generation -to use poor grammar and to hate.

I would like to send a reply to all of those who denied the Kurdish existence and the Kurdish history. Well I do not refer you to the historical resources as you show intentional denial. The Kurdish nation was small nation at the time when big roles played by big nations. Your nations (Turk, Persian, Arab) killed themselves in long series of wars while the Kurd were watching and looking for the opportunity to achieve national self and it is now the time for that. Your nations are old enough to be exhausted and may lose the leadership while our nation is young and active.

the Mitanni exhibit an Indo-Aryan superstrate, suggesting that an Indo-Aryan elite imposed itself over the Hurrian population in the course of the Indo-Aryan expansion. In a treaty between the Hittites and the Mitanni (between Suppiluliuma & Matiwaza, 1380 BC),the deities Mitra,Varuna, Indra, and Nasatya (Ashvins) are invoked. Kikkuli's horse training text ( 1400 BC) includes technical terms such as aika (eka, one), tera (tri, three), panza (pancha, five),satta (sapta, seven), na (nava, nine)

*mute sound* I don't know what you try to say but there is no written evidence of Kurdistan before the 11th century. Any objections ? A lot of people know today from new historical foundings that Turks' history in Anatolia is way older than some guys assume. Some people are afraid to recognize that. The simple fact that there are Turkic inscriptions in Southeastern Anatolia that date back to centuries before christ disproves your arbitrary claims. Better check yourself before you wreck yourself.

@KURDlSTANAF, Exactly what are you referring to, when you write "Fucking UK gave our land"? the land for more than 500 years was within the Ottoman empire. Kurds were living on that land back then as they are doing today, but this should not be mistaken for having a country, or a sovereign state, which lots of Kurds seem to have problem with! You are merely an ethnic group within the borders of the countries you live in, let that be Iran, Syria, Turkey or Iraq. Wa Salam!
